So, here I am finally doing preparations for my next trip. Normally I avoid planes as much as I can (it's usually more fun to take a bus for me), but when we're talking intercontinental, not much choice there.

Anyway, I'm in Gent and heading to Japan in June, still not clear exactly where but probably Tokyo I guess. So normally I'd go to a flight search engine such as edreams and search for flights from Brussels to Tokyo on the 11th of June, find something (it's around 630€) be done with it, right? Well, no. I'm trickier than that.

You see, I enjoy great flexibility. I say on June 11th, but only because I assume on a wednesday it will be cheaper than on a Saturday. I don't care about the exact date. And I say fly from Brussels because it's the closest, I might as well take a bus to go visit friends I have in Paris, London, Frankfurt or Berlin and then fly from there. So this involves an absurd amount of searching around from different places, at different times. And that's leaving the destination quite static as Tokyo, which it doesn't really have to be.

So, as I was starting my search, I thought I'd ask: does somebody know more flexible search engines? Ideally, it would be perfect to make a search of "on this week, give the flights from any airport 500km away from this point to Tokyo, and order the results by price". I doubt there's something that convenient, but I thought I'd ask. I did a quick search and found faregeek.com, which does have some nice search options, but when I search from Brussels to Tokyo with flexibility options enabled it doesn't even find the one transfer flight that edreams told me about, so it doesn't seem to be working all that well.
