Well, nothing quite so "Please daddy hold my hand and check under the bed", but I find I draw more attention with a curtly worded subject line. Anyway, since it's been a while since it's release, I'll refresh your memories. "The Nameless" (link here) is a Retro Remake (it's part of their 'scene', I guess, and that's why it's capitalized) of "Exile", by Ovine By Design. That is, Exile by Superior Software/Audiogenic, and not the MSX game by Nihon Telnet (both were released in 1988, adding further confusion to newcomers). Not surprisingly, both are ludicrously difficult (I hear tell that the boss battles in the MSX game can take up to an hour apiece).
The 'Exile' by Audiogenic was less swordy-RPGy, and more Jetman-meets-Metroidy. It helped if you had the map from one of the game or computer magazines that published it. Not so much to help you figure out what object goes where or how to put out that fire, more to help you gain your bearings when you do figure out the function of certain objects, and have to travel a long way back.
Similarly, Ovine By Design provides a game map, but I cannot find anything resembling a Hint FAQ or walkthrough. Their boards are still active, but a ghost town.
I can get about as far as the bit where you have to tractor-beam a water pail to and from a pool to put out a fire, but that's about it. I've tried 'interacting' with the various statues (the ones you can't demolish), either by setting the smallish blue crystals in the statues' 'held out' hands (and by setting, I mean spending half an hour maneuvering my jets and tractor beam just right so the crystal will land on the hand; yes you have to drag these crystals around with a tractor beam, instead of getting a proper adventurer's inventory), or by leading and baiting various fauna towards them. Then there's the spot with the 'shadow' monsters (you'll get a warning about their proximity via a yellow light on the 'dashboard'). I can't fight them, and I can't fly past them quickly enough. It's a right mess.
