menganogog: About combat, I haven't a clear opinion, but it seems very simple and of little strategic (how I said that's only my opinion based in some gameplays so I can have a wrong idea about it).
Every single fight literally consists in this series of actions (in this precise order): buff, debuff, attack with magic to increase the stagger bar, attack with warriors once the bar is full, defend when the "big attack" arrives, heal. Repat, repeat, repeat. NO enemy can be defeated without adopting this pattern, and you will never need to use your brain to overcome a challenge: either your level is high enough and you win, or it is not and you die.
Trust me, avoiding FFXIII was the right decision! :)
