I just downloaded Fallout Tactics to make a DVD out of it, and when I looked in the directory there are 153 executable files in there (normally there is ONE, the one that is the setup file-screenshot below I hope lol)

Do I need to include all 153 of those exe files on the DVD or is that some sort of error left over from when the GOG Downloader did it's "merging" thing?

The files are the result of an incomplete merging process. The installer should be about 1.6 GB large (at least mine is), yours is only half the size. So I guess that the additional chunks in your folder are bits of data still waiting to be merged. And after the merging, there should indeed only be one exe file left.

Those 153 files are the chunks that get combined to form the executable, normally the downloader should have cleaned up its mess by itself. I'd suggest readding the game to the downloader and let it verify the integrity (or run the setup and see if it verifies itself).
Assuming the setup is ok, delete the chunks, you no longer need them.

Okay, THANK YOU BOTH.

Gave you both + for fast responses too!

Thanks again.

Gonna download the thing again.

*sigh* so slow on this 2002 P-4 Dell Dimension. But that's ALL I've got now. lol, I had a new desktop, that had to be sent back for warranty work and got trashed. I had a 2006 HP laptop, that has now officially, as of Friday, completely died (can't get it to do ANYTHING). And I had a BRAND NEW laptop last week, that is on it's way back now due to problems.

And this 2002 P-4 Dell dimension is still plugging along.....

I would say I horrible luck with computers, but then my Dell would die and I can't live like that....
Fallout tactice should be a single 1.5GiB file. So no, this isn't right.

What the downloader does is download the files in lots of 10 meg chunks. Those are what you see there. When it has downloaded them it joins all the chunk files together into a .exe file (and some .bin files for games over 2 gigs) and then deletes the chunk files.

It looks like the downloader started joining the files together and then got interrupted halfway through. There are a few things you could do. You could try to download the game again and the downloader will see that you already have the chunks and merge them for you. Or if you know how you could make a quick bash script to join the files yourself (but make sure to run the installer and let it go through the integrity check - if it passes the test you can delete the chunk files and keep the working .exe).

edit: looks like I'm too slow for this thread ;)

Heh, I just tried to redownload HOPING oh soo HOPING it would do what you suggested, but, nope, nothing. When I tell it to download Tactics it just comes up again, and immediately says completed. Looks like I'll have to do the whole thing over again.

Man I wish my laptop hadn't died on me. Thing was TWICE as fast at downloading. I never understood that because they're both hooked up to the exact same internet connection, but I swear they weren't even CLOSE in downloading stuff. This old Dell just does everything slower I guess.

It is possible that you have too many concurrent connections, and the CPU/HDD isn't keeping up with them. Try setting the connections to 1, and see if the speed increases (you probably need to pause and resume the download). Then start increasing the connections by 1 until you get a better speed. Hopefully this will help, especially since the GOG.com servers are quite fast.

Sorry, I don't understand. I only have one thing connected now, and that is this old Dell.

---------------------
Okay, I renamed the Fallout Tactics folder BACKUP (so I wouldn't have to redownload the extras).

But, even without a folder in the directory at all named Fallout Tactics, whenever I try and redownload the game using the GOG downloader, it just comes up and immediately says completed.

WTH??

So I guess I'm gonna have to DL the thing with my browser, which is even slower???

Arghh, I'm having a bad week...

My bad, let me explain in a bit more detail.
In the GOG.com Downloader, click the button that says "Settings" (top right corner), whic will open the options screen for the downloader. In the "General Settings:" part, the 3rd one is a slider that says "Number of concurrent connections:", and it has a default setting of 6 as I recall. That means that the downloader will be downloading 6 10mb chunks at once, which will all be written on the disk at the same time. Since the laptop you are using isn't that new, it is possible that the bottleneck is on the hdd writing speed, not on the internet connection.
So, move the slider to the left, so you have 1 concurrent connection, which is similar to downloading from the website. If the speed is increased, then increase the connections to 2, and see if they are better or not. Increase it until you have the max speed for the downloads, which should hopefully be the one you had with the old computer as well.

Hope this wall of text helped a bit more, and that I haven't been ninja'd in the meantime

Oh, gotcha.

I'll give that a few tries.

Finally got Tactics to DL though, and it's in ONE file now, so, hopefully all is good.
