I trust Fox Mulder, he was a FBI agent.

And he said "Trust no one"

So I do.

But... if he said I shouldn't trust anyone, I shouldn't trust Mulder too, so I should trust everyone? Shit...

stoicsentry: Kinda felt the same way, but I have to admit that the government can *sometimes* do something right. *Sometimes*.
And sometimes for the right reason. But it seems this becomes increasingly rare. And at this moment in time, the US gov is working hard to gain control over the net. Just the other day they seized a server which was being used as a re-mail server for a variety of peaceful activist groups. Much more to say on this and other disruptions. Just pay attention. Watch livestreams and compare that with "news" feeds. Hell, even just reading headlines ought-a give someone pause in trusting US agencies. More reasons to distrust than trust.
Well according to the link, I'm clean. However, given the recent government trend toward trying to control the internet, I'm a little suspect about the motives/truthfulness behind this thing. And that's coming from me, the hardcore anti-conspiracy guy :P
I'm infected :-(

Is there an trustworthy third party that I could get the scan or fix from, such as Avast? I don't trust the government as of late.

Sir, if that is what infection looks like, the whole lot of this on this forum is infected. Happily.

On a serious note, it said I was clean so yeah, awesome. But third party searchers? Government is a little "take over the internet"-y recently so yeah.

Scary thought idn't it? To put more trust in the private sector, than in the public agency we entrust to "protect us". In reality the two have merged to protect themselves from competing interests.

In this specific case, more trust in open source software and organizations, than in corporate and government agency. Tells us something of how many people think the government ought be run. Open, transparent, accessible.

What a load of crap... I would just about bet that checking the site to see if you have the infection IS the infection.... these kind of stories are just a load...
Just sandbox it and run the site that way, or run it in TOR browser with security settings all on/at max. If it comes out clean then run it as per normal. Also verify verify....bloody VERIFY the story is legit till you're convinces before clicking on any link you don't trust.
I'm clear, but I'm running a system wide scan on 3 different malware scanners and a virus scanner.

Same, i'm good to go. I hope this isn't yet another government trick /sarcasm
This was in the Finnish news in January already, probably in other coutries too. I checked my computer for the DNSChanger with a link provided by the local CERT organization and it reported that everything was fine.

Since then I've made my weekly virus/malware scans normally and never found anything.
I'm clean, my scans only picked up a few cookies.
