I was playing Company Of Heroes Tales Of Valor last night so my mind is on WW2 now. Who is your favorite WW2 general and what is the name of your favorite WW2 tank?

My favorite WW2 general is Patton. My favorite WW2 tank is the Jagdpanther.

Jagdpanther - check this monster out... It was 100% designed to kill other tanks.

Rommel.

Panzerkampfwagen 38(t)

Ed: Jagdpanther is not a tank, but a tank destroyer. ;)

Patton I guess.

As Pz V Panther was probably the best tank of WW2, my vote goes there. Sadly for Germans it was deployed too late to make any real difference.
Also T34, as first tank with sloped armor, and the one took serious part in battles.

I know but calling it a tank is also acceptable considering a tank is a a tracked, armoured fighting vehicle designed for front-line combat which combines operational mobility and tactical offensive and defensive capabilities. T-34 is my second favorite tank.

Isn't Paulus the guy who just gave up the German 6th Army to the Russians? Yes, it is too bad they never built the tank. It would be a sight to see.

tiger tank, that thing is a monster even to this day,,it has slick design too
Kinda hard not to appreciate the ballsiness of Doolittle, though he wasn't yet a general when he hung them out in the wind.

There was a similar thread a few months back with others' thoughts on the matter. Might wanna search up that one.

Yes, he was the one... But it was Hitler's fault, for not planning the invasion properly, and not giving him the resources he needed. He could've wiped the russian horde of the face of the earth if he had everything that was needed.

Doolittle is close enough to a general so I don't see why he shouldn't be allowed in this thread.

I know. Hitler was an epic fail in war.

I feel like talking about General Anthony Clement "Nuts" McAuliffe. He kind of told the Germans to suck his balls when he was surrounded.

To the German Commander.

NUTS!

The American Commander

Hans Guderian.
And among tanks I would probably choose Tiger but have no strong preference there.
Rommel.

StuG III & Jagdpanther for their practicality, if you regard destroyers/assault guns as tanks like I do. If you don't, it would be difficult to choose. I'd probably pick the Tiger for its iconic looks, legendary if somewhat undeserved reputation and that awesome name. I quite like some of the hopelessly impractical or niche designs though, such as the Maus, Sturmtiger, Rammtiger, T-28 (the American one, that is), Char 2C and so on.

It was also relatively expensive and complicated compared to its Russian counterparts, so Germany had to continue building older Panzer III and IV models alongside it. Germany also had the problem of having used petrol in their older tanks (reserving diesel for marine use), so they had to keep on using petrol as the war progressed to avoid logistical problems. Not good considering the fact that the Panzer II weighed all of nine tonnes, where the Panther tipped the scale at 45, the Tiger at 57 and the Maus at 188 tonnes.

I give you the Somua S35.
Hi,

my favorite tank of ww2 is the t-34. Modern simple design that could be massproduced in huge numbers. It had good speed, very good mobility, modern sloped armor. It could drive on every terrain like snow, sand or rocks. And it was easy to repair. And it came to the right time, and played an important role 1942 in repelling the german advance on Moscow.

German tanks did not so good in the winter for excample, and were prone to engine or gear failure in the field. And the germans wasted much industrial capacity on way too many tank designs. They had like panzer 2, 3, 4, panzer 5 panther, tiger and king tiger, and all designs did not use interchangable parts. It must have been a real nightmare for the german engineer corp to keep all the tanks operatable.

The tetrarch is another nice light tank. It could be transported by gliders.Your tanks are big, but ours can fly, beat that germans.

Edit: The IL2 Sturmovik was called Flying Tank. So it deserves an honorable mention. This plane destroyed more german tanks then any other weapon in the sowjet ww2 arsenal.

My favorite general is Zhukov, because he won the war in the east for the sowjetunion. And he was a brilliant strategist too. The defense of stalingrad was hes doing, the turning point of the war. And he led the red army all the way to berlin later on.

Have a nice day.

For what it's worth, that balls-out action earned Doolittle the Medal of Honor and his generalship.

For my tank: in the spirit of Air Force generals, and as a nod to its appearance in Company of Heroes, I guess I'll go with the flying tank, the P-47 Thunderbolt. My closer-to-the-ground pick is the T-34. Simplicity and durability wins.

Edit: as torqual points out above, the P-47 wasn't the only flying tank. But I'll still go with that one.
