lotr-sam0711: Why did you post this twice? You already have it in the Fallout section.
avatar
Weclock: different groups frequent different sections. It would have ended up posted in both places twice anyway, so I figured I'd save some time and do it now.
Maybe I'm over-thinking it but I'd think the people interested in a new Fallout would probably frequent the Fallout section...
But whatever, it doesn't really matter I guess.

I thought so as well, but I had tested this very thing back when Fallout 3 was coming out, whenever I made a post about it in the fallout forums, a mirrored post was made in general, so I'm cutting to the quick with this.
Will they give me the game I'm looking for I wonder?
They haven't with Alpha Protocol (although I may get it anyway despite its action-ness).
Perhaps this will be something for us old school RPG players.
They could still use the Gamebryo engine for it though, since it's had a few different uses in its time.
Oh dear... new vegas?... wait maybe the hookers will do what they are paid for now!
please Obsidian put some decent writing in this one, i don't care if you don't finish it properly just make the story and dialogues look less retarded.
Ah, to see another Fallout in the hands of (some) Ex-Black Isle members made me rejoice.
With BethSoft doing Fallout 3 (East Coast) and Obsidian doing Fallout: New Vegas (West Coast), can it get any better for Fallout IP than this? :)
Great news.

Aliasalpha: Obsidian do good work as long as they have the time. Definitely be keeping my eye on this one.

Agreed 100%.

And leave that GFWL crap please Bethesda. :)
Under developed, rush, buggy Fallout with a crappy crafting system?
Yeah!
This thread is like watching a turn-based car crash.
But I am excited about the news. I hope there will be some more details today, since today was supposed to be the announcement before a reporter broke the news earlier than promised.
I REALLY hope Bethesda is ready to give them LOTS of time to finish this one. So far they haven't managed to get out a single game that wasn't an overdue, rushed, incomplete buggy mess.
The thought of the bugs in an Obsidian+Bethesda game is enough to make anyone quake in fear. ;-)

If they're using the gamebryo engine, it shouldn't be more than just a new storyline, map and model assets, and songs.
Damn it, gimme isometric!
I'm looking forward to this one. I get the impression (at least from this thread) that Fallout 3 isn't all that well-received, and I guess I can see why. It's... a big departure from the series' roots, but I rather liked Fallout 3 and even if this new game is done in a similar style, I don't think it'll bother me. I felt the core stuff like the ambiance and the sort of dark, gritty humor of the setting was kept intact, and so even though it was a first person game and all, it still felt like a Fallout game to me.
And yeah, sure, Obsidian's been a little hit or miss with their quality control, mostly because of their being forced to rush games out the door, (Which I hate) but they've still been able to do pretty good jobs with what they've put out. With me, it's never been that they've made -bad- games, so much as the games they've made just could've been so much better if they'd been given a development/testing cycle of adequate length.

Still, one must assume that they themselves have signed the contracts stating how long they had to develop the games in question, so you can't remove the blame from them entirely.

acare84: Noob console gamers can't play then this game right? They want to play mindless shooters.
avatar
Weclock: Do you mean won't? I doubt it, Fallout 3 was "so big" I don't expect anything less. If it was big enough to get me interested into the old games prior to release of 3, then I assume there are already quite a few noob console gamers who have 3 and will want to play New Vegas based off of "how good 3 was" also, I get messages from noob console gamers all the time on my youtube videos, ones who play Fallout 3.

Its the perfect setup.

acare84: But BioWare also is developing Dragon Age: Origins for hardcore and oldschool RPG gamers. BioWare also made action oriented RPG games like Mass Effect and Jade Empire. Maybe Bethesda will do too for old gamers. This is just hope. Anyway we will learn soon.

Weclock: I doubt it, Bethesda developed both Oblivion and Fallout 3 for the consoles, with PC as an after thought. Also, Obsidian Entertainment has developed from what I gather, mostly Console games as well.

They came out at the same time didnt they? And it looks better on PC. And they released an SDK along with a huge wiki for it. I wouldnt call it an afterthought.
