Pheace: Funny, me I'm waiting for a specific Fallout sale on Steam to pick out Fallout 3 because I'd rather have it on steam than a standalone copy (especially if it requires disc check, bleh) :)
avatar
SLP2000: I prefer physical copies, in case of the dead of the Internet. ;)

Disc check is the only DRM I have no problem (and swapping discs doesn't bother me) but I cannot stand online activation (unless I'm sure it'll be removed in a later patch) and I'd hate to install some steam crap on my PC.

I know that eventually, I'll be forced to (New Vegas and Civilization 5 are "on my list"), but Ii hope to avoid it as long as it is possible.
GOG copies are the best, no doubt about it... But with brand new games it´s more complicated. Of course, i prefer a Steam copy of Mass Effect or Spore rather than a physical one, the reason is the limited number of installations. Really hateful policy. And many new "physical" games run under Steam, so if they disappear...

Pheace: well, both of us are Euro as well, one West one East xD

KavazovAngel: If Netherlands are in the East of Europe, then I can safely say Macedonia is on Mars. :D
I was talking about you with that one, blame Wikipedia! :p

Macedonia (Listeni /ˌmæsɪˈdoʊniə/ mas-i-DOH-nee-ə; Macedonian: Македонија), officially the Republic of Macedonia (Република Македонија, transliterated: Republika Makedonija [rɛˈpublika makɛˈdɔnija] ( listen)), is a country located in the central Balkan peninsula in Southeastern Europe.

Yeah, I forgot limited installations. Mass Effect 1 released in Poland had no DRM protection, and afaik Mass Effect 2 had no restrictive DRM worldwide (just the disc check).

Anyway, in case of limited installations, most of them are connected with online activation, and are revokable. I hope we'll get a patch in the future to remove them.

And I do hope they won't change the policy for the ME3.

oh, and I'll wait for New Vegas GOTY / Complete edition with all DLC, maybe they won't make it steam-only.

I think that's *highly* unlikely ... but maybe, lol.

FO3 GOTY uses GFWL, No limits

BUT! Dont buy it yet!!!!! Quake con is on soon and all id and bethesda games will be on sale soon for a week on steam!

Its better to get games like FO3 and oblivion from steam coz if you install loads of mods and f's up your game you wont need to go through all the patching and stuff.

Thats if you can wait till then anyway.

Well it was on last year and the year before, So i see no reason why not. Im gonna wait anyway having it on steam is better for me, Last year i got oblivion GOTY deluxe for £7.50
and fallout 3 GOTY was like £15 on sale... Should be lower than that this year coz NV is out and the game is a year older than what it was.

/E it was in the end of june last year :/

The release of the activation manager pretty much makes those limits irrelevant.

TheCheese33: Yeah, I would much rather get a Steam copy than a boxed one.
avatar
KavazovAngel: I'll rather get a physical copy, and then have BOTH. ;) 2>1 in my world. :p
Except it isn't both.

I bought Fallout 3 GOTY on sale at a store thinking I'd just activate it on Steam with the key... No deal. It uses GFWL and cannot be activated on Steam... thus defeating the whole reason I bought the game in the first place.
You can even bypass the disc check in Fallout 3 simply by using the main exe instead of the launcher (ideally after the first time you've used the launcher as there are setup options in there).
