NightK: I'm a huge fan of these kind of games, Age of Wonders shadow magic is one of my favorites and I'm waiting for elemental to get cheaper to get it, so is it any good compared to age of wonders?

What about Lan play? Is it an option? Does it require unique copies of the game for it?

It's free for those who already had elemental, and will be discounted for those who buy elemental in 2011.

Tarm: So I'll have to buy a broken and overpriced game now and hope the patch will fix it? No way.
No you don't, if you already bought it, it's free.
If not, no one forces you to buy the previous one since the next one is a stand alone game and if you're really interested, you can always wait for the next one to come out and ditch the current elemental.

torqual76: @NightK: On the box it says 16 player lan multiplayer and internet play. But that is false advertising. There is no functioning multiplayer at all in Elemental: War of Magic. It requires a unique serial number for lan or online play.

I would not bother with Elemental at all. It's a soulless piece of garbage in the face of Age of Wonders or Master of Magic. I bought it and was so bored after playing 10 minutes that i brought it back to my videoshop. Ah i encountered some ctds in this playtime.

Have a magic day.
That sucks because I have 4 machines in my house and most of the time, we play games over lan, having to buy 3 or 4 copies of Impulse just to play elemental once in awhile isn't very wise or cheap.

NightK: <snip>
Problem is it's a laugh in the face for those of us that didn't buy it before because practically everyone said it was a broken game. What were customers supposed to do? See into the future? Trust the company to release a patch that fix the game?

Imho they should do the decent thing and make this a free patch for the game. Without any "tricks". Companies that do this sort of stunt will not get my money except if the game is low price and I really want it.

Point taken, at least their not charging previous owners of the game. But It's really a shame that the game needs unique serial key's for lan play.

Yeah it's a pity with the lan serial key. These games tend to be most fun in coop.

I mean I won't dish out 90€ just for me and my brothers to play... For just 8€ We can play age of wonders together and for what you guys keep saying, I'm better of this way.

You really are. Luckily I won it in a contest and didn't actually have to pay for it. :P
I got it somewhere, but I haven't had the courage to try it yet. I'll give it a shot now the worst bugs have been ironed out. And apparently I'm getting a free expansion!

I'm still not entirely clear on what is wrong with it gameplay wise, but I suppose I'll find out. Hard to imagine they made it worse than Age of Wonders. By which I *don't* mean AOW was bad; it was excellent. I mean that it shouldn't be rocket science to at least equal your predecessors in this case.

If you want to get technical, from a legal stand point for nearly every game out there (things like Starcraft 1 were the exception) you're required to purchase a copy for every concurrently running instance of it. Meaning that if you wanted to be legal and play a 4 person game of Age of Wonders you should have purchased 4 copies.

I wish more games had the feature that you could install your game on how many machines you wanted but could only play multiplayer without the disc in the drive.
I'll wait until it's either on gog or on steam.

And i will buy Episode 3 from Impulse .
I'm glad those that paid finally get to play a finished game. I hope there's still a good community left, Demigod's community was hosed by the time it was fixed.

And that's why I haven't bought a Stardock game since.

I also have Demigod but I find it a bit unbalanced and their matchmaking system is always empty.

It's empty because it launched as a steaming turd.

That and Remulous (or however you spell it) basically raped every other demi-god. Most games became the battle of the Remulouses because no one else could compete with a speed booted ranged nuker that you could never catch and had slowing shots.
