GFW was trash. I had a sub and their reviews were god awful. They gave the first Call of Juarez an 8... although I liked it too, it was nowhere near 8 on the critic scale. 7-6.5 at BEST. They also had a HORRIBLE Bioshock review. They talked about...choices or something and rambled on for eternity. They never said one thing about the actual game. They also had captions that made no sense. There was a picture with a bunch of splicer statues stacked up and the caption was " this is why Fort Frolic is our favorite level."... ok? To someone who hadn't played it yet (like many others) it was a huge WTF moment seeing how it was a 2 page long review. They also gave the game a 10/10 and didn't explain why.
Anyways, glad to see EGM is back, it was my favorite.

Me too. The old one - as in during the era of Jeff Green, Desslock, Scorpia etc - was still the best. Until they, well, decided to thin down their magazines to 1/5 of the original thickness, change the name to Games for Windows, and eventually down the road to hell :(

Desslock's still around in PC Gamer US. Good old cigar chomping RPG Canadian.
Also, PC Gamer US is celebrating its 200th issue soon.

I agree in part.
I'll be subscribing though because I like sitting back and reading a physical copy, and with layout only magazines can pull off. Lends itself well to a certain style of writing, too.

I think I'll subscribe. I'm curious to see how the hybrid digital/physical magazine works out, and I enjoyed EGM in their previous iteration.

I liked EGM for a while, then lost interest in it. It also didn't help that after they gave their first 10/10 (was it for MGS?) it seemed like they stopped treating 6 as "average" and did the upscaling of scores that everyone else did.
I was actually more of a fan of their sister magazine Official US Playstation Magazine which, ironically, seemed to have less biased reviews. Plus, I actually HAD a Playstation :p. Although, that one fell apart once it became obvious that every god damned PS2 demo disc ever made would be scratched upon arrival...
