I've just finished Thief Gold and Diviine Divinity (both great games) and thought I'd try something light, fun and easy.

I've been playing games for a while but I'd say I'm about "average" or maybe novice/average in ability. These are my views on recent titles to my GOG library

So, I bought Phsychonauts = fun for a while then gets difficult and frustrating
Trine = as above
Hitman 2 = What? Only a 7 game save limit on easy?
Tomb Raider 2 = Sigh. Lara's not the nimble super-babe she was in the films!
POP Warrior Within = Run, climb, roll, fight - I'm close to the checkpoint <DIE>

I have a fair collection of GOG's, mainly RPG's, with the odd shooter/RPG (Deus Ex, CoRiddick) but I won't bore anyone with a full list.

Two questions spring to mind:
1) Is it just me? (Open invitation for hardcore gamers to point and laugh)
2) Any really easy, fun, games out there without save restrictions and/or ridiculous difficulty spikes

Not familiar with Hitman 2 in particular but isn't the game save limit per mission? It's quite doable in Blood Money at least

I tend to lean to shooters for easy, thoughtless fun. A few fit this category nicely:

Painkiller
Serious Sam

For adventure games, the first Book of Unwritten Tales is very light, full of humor, and has very easy, sensible puzzles.
Back to the Future also fits this very well.

Torchlight was also very quick and easy to jump into for short bouts of mindless gaming fun in the aRPG arena.

I recommend Defender's Quest. It's a tower defense game with RPG elements. It's a fun game and it is easy enough that everyone should be able to at least complete the normal campaign. There's an online demo if you want to check if you might like it.

Hocus Pocus? Although, personally, I found it pretty dull.

Get Torchlight (currently for free), the biggest complaint people have is that it's too easy. It's a fairly simple game, you run around and fight monsters to get more experience and equipment to fight more monsters.

It is per mission but I don't like these sort of restrictions - I'd prefer a box to check/uncheck

You didn't reply "Is it just me"! I'm looking for some love (metaphorically) to regain my gaming pride!! :) Thanks - yeah I have Painkiller and Torchlight andthey were fun. Not tried Serious Sam or others mentioned. Am checking them out as I type this

Psychonauts is generally easy but there are a few spots that can get really frustrating and that took me ages to overcome, but once I managed, it was all back to cakewalk again. Sadly the last level is one of these spots, too, so I didn't finish the game. And the checkpoint system is really aggravating. I mean it's all fine in-game, but if you quit a level halfway through because you need a break or don't have time to play anymore, next time you'll have to start from scratch again. So after a while I got tired of having to repeat the same old same old just to get to the challenging spot again.

I think MDK & MDK 2 aren't that hard, and they allow you to save where- and whenever you want to.

I agree with hucklebarry re:Torchlight It's a simple, easy game - and the price is rather appealing right now too =)

Well, here's some games that aren't really that hard :

-Serious Sam: First Encounter
-Defender's Quest
-Torchlight (It's free right now)
-Sacred (on the low difficulty, it can get hard on higher difficulty)
-Bloodrayne
-Postal 1(Controls take a while to get used to, but after that, it's really easy)



As for Hitman 2 - On easy, there's a 7-saves per mission limit. The game itself isn't really that complicated on easy, but there are a couple of missions that are very hard, even on the lowest difficulty.

The latest prince of persia, it's literally impossible to die there. Combat can get frustratin though.

I remember Bloodrayne 2 to be quite easy too, I usually joke about it being the only game where health packs come running towards you.

On easy, you also take less damage when hit by bullets, it's very easy to play the game on that difficulty. You only have to be worried about the Japanese snipers and running into a group of enemies.

Yea, that is correct. It is far more than you actually need, even if you save after each challenging point, but I can understand why a habitual saver might find it frustrating.

In the end, it will all depend on your definition of easy, but here are a few that I did not find to be all that challenging or punishing:
Anachronox (JRPG-like game with a western twist)
The Longest Journey (no way to fail, and the puzzles were not all that hard)
To the Moon (no challenge at all, just story. Not "fun" though, but very touching)
Might & Magic 8 (Probably the easiest Might & Magic game, in particular if you get a dragon. Might be a bit challenging early on, before you have a good party)
Magic Carpet 2 (replayed this a while ago, and was surprised by how easy it was. Very fun though)
Sam & Max Games (Short fun & funny episodes. Quite easy by adventure game standards)
Tiny & Big: Grandpa's Leftovers (Short, fun & easy. The game's core mechanic of cutting up the environment was the main draw here)
Costume Quest (I found it to be a tad bit on the easy side, and for its price, it is a bit on the short side as well (i.e. not worth full price), but it was fun)

Hmm, assuming you're looking for RPG tips:
1. Quest for Glory 3 - Combat isn't hardcore; the most challenging can be to figure out a puzzle. This game is more about exploring different cultures and there is no doom and gloom scenario.
2. Defender's Quest - As PaterAlf said, the learning curve is very user-friendly. Playful game with a lot of jokes.
3. Anachronox - Okay, I'm not so sure about this one. It's funny adventure RPG with FF-like combat and great characters. Combat might be probably challenging at times.

Adventures:
Adventure - The Longest Journey - The first game is very good-natured and there are maybe two troubling puzzles.
Platformer - Many people praise Rayman. I haven't played it.
