Nope. Wasn't really around for alot of the NES. My starting years was the SNES and the N64
There is a previous thread on this, but hey it's looks totally friggin awesome.

It truly was. =) But it also was an frustrating experience. Don't remember music but I hope even that was good. =P
Nah, fine game that was. Never got through but still.. I was so young back then. So then it was better to play double dragon or megaman.
I've been excited about this game since I first heard about it (on these boards). There's one little thing that bugs me, though:
- Fighters gain xp primarily by damaging opponents with melee attacks
- Rogues gain xp primarily by damaging opponents with ranged attacks
- Mages gain xp primarily by casting spells and using magic items
- The whole party gains xp by solving puzzles & finding secrets
The key word there is 'primarily.' I hate systems like this, because unless they are balanced very carefully, they have the potential to overshadow the entire game with XP micromanagement.

For example, consider the gameplay video. A spider is frozen by the mage, then shattered by the two fighters. Does the rogue get no experience for this kill? Does the spider yield less XP for the party overall than if it had been killed more conventionally - or is XP gain based on damage dealt, implying that fighters with higher strength (like the minotaur) or better weapons will level up more quickly? The mage only cast four spells during the video, compared to dozens of attacks from the other three - is he lagging behind in experience? Is mana easy to come by, or is it a valuable resource that has to be used sparingly, meaning the mage's primary means of levelling up is heavily restricted?

I can see that one innocent little blog post having significant implications for how the game is played. It reminds me of playing Final Fantasy II and having to grind up my fighters' hit points by having them attack themselves.

Oh man. I hate Elder Scrolls-like character progression systems, especially in a crawler like this. Let me do whatever I want with my characters and give me equal experience, don't make me use artificial "gamey" tactics to, for example, maximize xp gain for a specific character, please.

Old school is good, but not to the point where it's irritating.

Looking good, I might get since it's a long time I've played one of these.

The movement of both this and of Asylum feels nice; it's not like every game nowadays needs to have an all free, unrestricted way of moving around the game's environment. Being constrained (directed you might say) helps with the atmosphere.

Folks, please help the devs make the most sensible decision and express your desire for the game to be DRM-free/available on gog (hey, why not?). If it ends up being another Steam exclusive, I'll be furious.

I am quite interested in this game, but yeah if it is Steam-exclusive that means no-go for me.
I'm all for a game like this but they need to fix that continually picking up the throwing knives shit. The spell casting looks interesting, I'm not sure what I think about the way attacks are launched, if they can be keybound then probably that will work okay (the clicking on 4 squares over and over again doesn't look fun, it looks distracting).
Well. it will be tough decision for me. I love Eye of the Beholder, Lands of Lore and this game brought these sweet memories back. I am anti-Steam person. I really do not like what did Steam do to the modern gaming. But this game could be the first one to make me register on Steam. Yes, it could really do that. But I really hope I will have other options. Anyway no-Steam purchase that will be first day purchase for me (I could even preorder that). Steam purchase will be much "harder", as I will for sure waiting for other options (that could be months, years), time will show. But this game looks like a must-have one to me.
