Even worse, the literary rights to the estate of Frank Herbert belong to the Trident Media Group, who I hear are absolute bastards to deal with, and they would probably also have claims arising from any republication of the games, as they own many of the Dune-related trademarks.
So I don't see a rerelease of Dune or Dune 2 happening really. EA only owns the rights to the Dune 2 game itself, not to Dune 1 (which is in limbo, being the property of Avalon Interactive, which has since gone bust) or the Dune trademarks.
