GameRager: Play nice now. This thread is about getting along, and tolerating everyone else's opinion(though yes he did act a bit over the top.)
I resent the idea floated by many and harped on by certain journalists (like Alec Meer at rockpapershotgun) that this kind of humor or action is for simpletons or immature men. To me it's more immature to pretend you can't enjoy some things despite their immaturity or crassness. There is no reason a person can't enjoy both Animal House and Mytic River, or Bulletstorm and Civilization V.

Eclectic and varied experiences make gaming better. I like my linear Call of Duty shoot-a-thons and my open tactical shooters like Crysis. I like my action RPGs like Risen and my tactical RPGs like Baldur's Gate. I like thoughtful and mature storylines like The Witcher 2's and I also like crass fun like Bulletstorm.

I'm so fucking tired of people acting like you have to choose sides in some kind of lame ass taste war.
Totally good points, and I couldn't agree more. You don't have to be a kid to enjoy this maturely.

Edit: Non, plz be nice. ;)

Oh hey, Strawman, come on in. Been a while since you've been around.

dudalb: The Mechnaics in the original DUke Nukem 3d were fine. But I am concerned about the simplification of the controls to pander to the Consul players. The Two Weapons at a time limit is the deal breaker for me. A Duke without a arsenal of weapons to use Is not the Duke I know and love.
While the two weapons limit is annoying and shouldn't be there, personally I would be happy if that was the only issue (Warning : personal opinion follows).

While playing the demo I barely noticed this limit because I was too busy being annoyed/shocked/pissed off by the rest. For me the biggest flaw of DNF, at least the Demo, is that it feels like an amateur remake of DN3D, it's not "scripted"/polished/streamlined enough to be a "modern" console shooter but on the other side it don't feel at all like an old school shooter like DN3D (duke feel like he weight a ton, limited number of enemies, slow rhythm etc...)

I can enjoy a console FPS like CoC, I enjoy an "oldschoolish" FPS like Serious Sam, heck I can even enjoy low budget eastern Europe FPS like Vivisector, but during DNF demo I was just bored.

Can you even strawman a strawman?

The original point you made was pretty asinine, it's not really a strawman to point out that the argument amounts to what he said.

Plus, if the demo is any indication, there's going to be a fair amount of reference that's not going to be immediately obvious to a lot of people.

Plus, plus, why are you even posting in here? If you're going to troll, could you at least do it better than this weak stuff.

I know a lot of people ignored reading comprehension and analytical thinking in school, since it was usually buried in a course about some boring old books, but you've very nearly won the logical fallacy bingo.

Yes, but is your philosophy degree regretting you?

Sadly, it doesn't exist yet. Soon, that paper will take its place in my dark closet.

Vagabond postulates a philosophy: lick it, and it will be good. So he did. And it was.
A sort of funny, semi interesting writeup commentary on Duke4 forum about why Duke can only carry two weapons in-game, and also why his vision blurs after only one drink....quite a tragic yet funny read at any rate:

===============================

I have seen people complain about Duke Nukem Forever's two weapon limit for various reasons. However, this can easily be explained in-game:

Steroid abuse.

Think back to Duke Nukem 3D. There are many Steroid pickups found throughout the game. I would guess that there are at least 30 bottles of steroids found throughout the entire game. Let's assume that Duke Nukem, being the manly man that he is, took all of them. Taking all of those steroids through the game, which seems to last over a day or so, would surely make Duke Nukem an addict. Even after, he would surely have to feed his newfound addiction. It is very unlikely that he would receive treatment, as this would clash against his hypermasculine personality.

By the time Duke Nukem Forever starts, 12 years of steroid addiction have surely taken their toll on them. His dependency on steroids has caused many mood problems, which manifests itself in his eagerness to commit violence to defeat the aliens as soon as they come back and his constant angry comments at mutated humans (known as Pig Cops) and aliens when killing, both consistent with steroid addiction.

However, the most profound of them is in his strength. His steroid abuse can certainly caused cholesterol problems (http://www.southcoas..._treatment.html). This would cause his to become weaker and more susceptible to heart issues, making it impossible for him to carry the large arsenal he has in DN3D. Knowing this, Duke has deliberately limited the amount of weapons he can carry to two so that he won't suffer from a heart attack from having to carry so many weapons at once.

Other symptoms of steroid addiction that Duke Nukem shows in DNF:

- Bladder irritability (he can pee at any toiler any time)

- Nausea (explains Duke's nausea-like vision when he drinks a beer)

- Infertility (despite being the most popular person in the world, he is never shown having children)

- Psychotic episodes (seen when Duke is using steroids in DNF)

Drug addiction is a serious thing, and I hope that either the end of DNF or the start of a new Duke game show him finally receiving treatment for his steroid abuse. Hopefully, such treatment will allow Duke to hold every weapon he finds at once in future games.

Wow, give me a moment to bask in the glow of your Duke sized ego.

The comment to which Stinging was referring to wasn't logically valid. Now, you might disagree, in which case, don't even bother reading this because it's going to go way over your head.

You were begging the question in that section of post, not to mention your rather blatant violation of the burden of proof. I'm sure there's at least a few more logical fallacies in there, I just have better things to do with my time than to explain to you the many ways in which you failed miserably at constructing a consistent argument.
I just heard on Duke4......Aussies who bought from EB/Gamestop will be getting the game today(Thursday 9th) as some store released early thus now all stores there will be doing the same come opening later today.

So I hear DNF Xbox 360 and PS3 versions have been available on torrents for a couple of days, while the PC version awaits release. I'm starting to agree with the publishers, PC piracy is a problem.... it's moving to slow :))

I am not sure how people are playing it on the PS3 though, as far as I know, you cant use a pirated game on a PS3 with the latest update, and to play any of the newer games, you have to have the latest update.

I wish i did know, games are expensive :(
