Let's do the time warp again*!

Welcome to our [url=http://www.gog.com]DRM-Free Time Machine Sale! Fasten your seatbelts and prepare for a fascinating ride to the early days of PC gaming and back again, with 30 excellent titles selected from the years 1983-2013, available up to 90% off (that is for as little as $0.59!). You'll find amazing games in amazing prices featured one by one on GOG.com main page, and before the sale is done you'll be able to complete your very own display of gaming history on a budget below $65 (because this would be the cost to get every single game in the sale). Are you ready?

<iframe width="590" height="322" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/6_uC01QztBg?rel=0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

There's more than just buying games incredibly cheap to our DRM-Free Time Machine Sale! We're ready to pass its steering wheel (or rather the control console) to YOU. Each game in the sale is offered for a limited time only, and how long we stay in its year is up to you! Each time you see a new game on sale you can vote to either add or subtract 1 second from the timer. Each time you buy a game, you add 3 seconds to the time of it being on sale. We begin with 1983's Zork, bundled with the rest of the Zork Anthology of 6 games in total, for only $1.79. How long will it last on the front page? You'll be the judge. What comes next, as the game of 1984? Let's find out!

Let's take a trip in GOG.com's DRM-Free Time Machine Sale! 30 great games from 1983-2013 will be available up to 90% off, and you get to decide how long each game is on sale. Ready? The technomagical gateway to 1983 opens NOW!

* "Again?", you might ask, "when did they ever do the time warp?". Well, once you embark on a journey through time, all becomes relevant and there's absolutely no guarantee that what you are doing, you are doing for the first time. In fact, that's highly improbable. After all, time isn't linear. It's more like a giant wobbly-bobbly goggy-boggy ball of gaming awesome!

ALH: So wait, at the Insomnia Sale we had to sit around and wait for games that didn't sell well and on this Time Machine Sale we need to sit around and wait for games that sell well? What gives?:D
avatar
carnival73: There is an up/down arrow below each game presented.
Every account has the option to either add or remove a second.

Now imagine multiple accounts, bots and lots and lots of people who love making fun of bad ideas.
...Wait, we are we talking this sale or the Insomnia one?
avatar
RandomJC: Sooo I missed 87 and 88. Anything good?
Oh, sorry.....Sim City was 89 and no.
avatar
Shendue: Actually it turned into an interesting series of consequences.
-The term "keaning" became a running joke/meme on all the games in the promo that were slow sellers and it's still used even now
-The team that produced the game was very cool about it and someone from the team even posted an official comment on the matter ironically thanking the community and saying they were happy to help us have some hours of sleep
-In the hope of accelerating sales, a lot of people posted reviews on the game saying it's the best thing since bacon and that the game cured ill people, took back to life comatose dudes and enlightened everyone's life. Some of them are pretty funny, check them yourself.
avatar
OdanUrr: This made my day. I'm sure to check those reviews now! Thanks!
Some of them are absolutely amazing:
I should preface this by saying that I've been having a lot of trouble with my son. Recently, he's discovered the wide world of the internet as well as computer gaming, and he hasn't been listening to his mother or myself at all.
Jack Keane, your Fire Within has cleansed my son of all desire to turn on a computer from this day forth! He cleaned his room, did the dishes, and wept as he said his prayers. When I asked what brought about the change, he screamed through the raining tears, "JACK KEANE! JACK KEANE!"
Bless you, Jack Keane...

stufff: So by the time I even found out about this I'd already missed a bunch of games I would have bought on sale.

For what it's worth, these kind of extremely time-limited sales (on weekdays no less) aren't ideal for those of us with jobs. You know, the people most likely to have disposable income and buy games.

I'd prefer a 24 hour window on any sale because as it happens I don't check GoG for sales every hour of the day. Just my two cents.
avatar
Tomkel: I absolutely agree with you. A limited time sale, during the work day, and no listing of what will be on sale and when!

Who exactly are they trying to attract with this type of promotion?
Well I have to get up in 3 hours and I should really sleep so I won't look like a zombie at work.
But some people have strange priorities :)
avatar
sipos: So, so far there has been Zork (1983), Ultima (1984), King's Quest (1986), Might and Magic (1987), SimCity2000 (1989, which is when the original SimCity was released, through 2000 is obviously* the best version).

Did I miss any yet?

Edited to add the ones I realized I had missed which I did see. Does anyone know if these are the correct years they were shown as?

Insomnia offered a finite number of copies. The sale wouldn't move on until all copies sold.
We spent a good half day staring at crap games like Jack Keane.
There wasn't much a way to troll the Insomnia sale however it appeared that bots were making quick work of the freebies and better discounts.

This sale - Each person can vote a second longer or shorter (i think each sale offers a vote as well).

OdanUrr: Time Lords.
Bored office workers who can keep half an eye on what's going on while not doing real work?

Great... Most of my favourite era will go past whilst I sleep. I really hate these stupid time sales. Just stick to the daily deals gog, that way you're not screwing over all of us who don't live in certain parts of the USA.
Ain't gonna play Sim City.

(With apologies to the admirable intent of the original song.)

I don't think there are that many people in existence who use GOG and either do not have or want Sim City 2000 for the duration it's been posted.

Pretty unlikely. As i already pointed on a previous comment, those kind of coordinated efforts usually are directed to services that are perceived as very bad and disrespectful of the users, like Steam or Origin, maybe. Certainly not GOG. I can't see that happening if not for a few dozens of idiots, who wouldn't affect the promo that much and can be anyway easily counterbalanced by the other people adding seconds.

Check the main board.....some GOGers are keeping a thread with a running list...there've only been under ten listings so far.

randomengine: I predict that 1990 will be Railroad Tycoon.

Edit: nvm, Railroad Tycoon is not on GOG :(.
Railroad Tycoon Deluxe is available for free from the Official Sid Meier's Railroads! Site. This version is pre-configured with DOSBox.
