When I saw the GTA IV PC box art (which as you know, contains Securom), I noticed a little lock at the top of the box. It's not much, but it sure would make finding out what games are clean and what games have protection easier.

There is already a DRM notifier on many boxes. You recognize it by the EA logo down in the middle.

I've seen some photos on other forums of game boxes that are laying it out much more clearly. Things like "On-line activation and limited activations". That's a good step in the right direction, but I really want to see the box state "This game is protected by SecuROM 7.x copy protection." or something similar. That way I'll know in seconds whether or not the game will be a purchase for me.
It's time these publishers started coming clean about what they're using to 'protect' their games and let the public make an informed purchasing decision. Of course, they may find that once the public starts looking deeper into the issue that their sales will plummet.

I'd also hope people would do some research before they buy. Yes, it would be awesome if it was on the box, but even then nothing beats good ole research when it comes to actually finding out what kind and how intrusive the DRM is.

Yes, indeed, but most people need to be burned by it first before they start to research it. If it's on the box though, maybe some people will see it and say "Hmmm, maybe I better find out what this is before I buy it".
Personally, I buy no games now without first researching what copy protection/DRM is on it. But that's because I was hosed by the DRM on BioShock. When I found out what was going on I said "Never again."

It would be handier if the box said what kind of DRM is involved, as seeing a game in a store, then getting home to Google it, then getting back to the store to buy it is much of a hassle. But maybe I'm old-fashioned and most people go to online shops only or take a smarthphone with a 3G connection to a physical store?

Detailed and explicit mention is what I like and would see as fair and just also.

Is there a Valve/Steam logo on other boxes :P
