Crassmaster: As I said...SecuROM installs when you run the game. Clearly you had run the game, so it's already installed.
If you go to the SecuROM site and download the removal tool, it will pull almost everything. Whatever it leaves behind will be removable manually.

I'd have expected the SecuROM install files to be installed on installation of the game from the DVD, and the activations details stored in registry on first running the game.
But thanks for the SecuROM removal tool link. Once the very few games I have with it are uninstalled (think I only have two or three, though Far Cry 2 shouldn't use it any more anyway) I'll be able to use it to remove SecuROM.

Nope, it gets installed when you run it. That's why you can install a game, patch it up to the point where the DRM is patched out, then run the game and you're SecuROM free.

Does that only pertain to the original or the Gold edition also? I had the Gold edition and it had a SecuROM disc check. Is there a patch available that removes that (aside from a fixed exe)?

I think that CD check is removed by patch 1.20, but since I bought a fully patched version on gamersgate I may be wrong.

Worms 4 doesn't contain any DRM. You don't even need to use the CD to play the game..

I have the Gamersgate version, but there should be a DRM removal patch for the physical copy.

Thanks Narakir and Crassmaster for mentioning the GamersGate version. I didn't realize that a DRM-free copy was available.
I looked around for retail patch that removes the disc check, but I only found fixed exes. Since I gave it away not all that long ago I suppose that's a moot point for me. :P

No problem, deoren. Actually, the digital copy from any site will be that DRM free version. So if you have a preference other than GG, you should still be good.

Nah, GG is cool with me. :) Every time I've emailed their support asking about a game they've been really quick with their responses. They also state pretty clearly what DRM is used on the majority of their titles and I really like that.

Perhaps it was so obvious that it wasn't mentioned but... patched older blizzard games (Diablo 2 and Warcraft 3) only require CD-key to run.

It's been mentioned in other threads, but what is also cool is that Diablo 2 + Exp, Warcraft 3 + Exp & Starcraft + Exp can be registered on a Battle.net account and downloaded from there.
You can burn them to disc and install without any net connection whatsoever. In short, you can make your own backup. :)
