I'm about 75 hours into DAO PC and still ain't done with it....
Post edited January 29, 2010 by MysterD
I stopped playing as I wanted to do RTO before heading off to Dwarf Land. Hope it comes out soon because as time rolls by I am finding it harder to get back to it.

It'll take you about 100 if you don't rush.

Word on the street is that RtO should be out early next week. If it hadn't been delayed a dozen times already I'd put my money on Tuesday.
Wait, it was just released a few hours ago on PC.

Better hurry up and nab it before it gets taken away.

Thanks - I haven't been to Biowares Site lately. Now with ME2 out the door maybe next Tuesday is a possability.
Actually it looks like it was just released earlier today.

Ah, it seems Gundato was right after all.
Thanks for the heads up.
You think we'll get our specializations locked if we download it ? ;)

Thanks again - Got it downloaded already. Had the 400 Points just sitting there since before the first release date. Looks like I may have something to do tomarrow.
Over 105 hours it took me.
Finished it basically Saturday night.
Saved after finishing final encounter.
Yesterday morning....
walked out to greet Denerim's people and saw the end-screens/summaries.[/spoiler]
Awesome game.

Mind the BUMP.
So Awakenings. Who's played it then I have and I am in two minds about it. WARNING There may be spoilers!
Positives:
- Level cap increased to 35
- New skills, talents and specializations
- New characters are interesting. Especially Nathanial Howe. Didn't see that one coming.
- Choices you made in the core game affect appearances in the new game (Alistair and Logain)
- New 'talkie' Darkspawn are interesting
- Runes can now be added to armor and you get a runecrafting skill
- 10 hours of more Dragon Age: Origins
Negatives:
- The price is a bit much for only 10 hours TBH
- Some new skills and specializations are overpowered and open to abuse (Blood Mage + Battlemage)
- DLC from DA:O is glitched. You can begin the game totally nekked if your DLC has not carried over (Blood Dragon, Starfang, Wardens Armor)
- There are no romances which makes sense. In my ending my character had gone to be re-united with Lelianna. However there is also a lot less conversation with party members which is one of the things I liked about DA:O
- Some endings are not carried over. For example if you chose to go with Sten and Wynne being back but no mention of Shale.
- Oghren was a strange choice. Never warmed to him as he's a stereotype. Would have preferred to have Zevraan or Shale back.
- Ending felt very rushed. All of a sudden you get a "Do you want to end the game now?" option. Nothing like the previous games Landsmeet.
So was it worth it? IMO it's more than a DLC and less than a full expac so yeah the price is a bit much for what you are getting. The Amaranthine region is small and the whole thing seems over to quickly. Then again it's a far tighter game and story now with a lot of the padding gone. I'm happy enough but just remember what you are getting before you click add to cart.
@Delixe:
Thanks for the honest review. I'll probably wait until it hits the $20-30 range.
Thanks Delixe -
Now no rush to finish DA:O as I can wait for the price to drop.
I'm playing Awakening now. I honestly don't know how some people are finishing it so fast, as I've played about 6 hours so far and haven't even gone to Amaranthine yet. That aside, one note about DLC items:
they don't carry over into Awakening, except the Return to Ostagar items. This is by design, although I'm unclear as to the exact reason behind it.
As for the game itself, I'm so far satisfied with my purchase, but if you're waffling at all due to the price, I'd suggest waiting. There are some issued with it (pick pocketing is broken in the latest patch, which Awakening requires), and there are some things that just don't sit well IMO (the usual epic scaling scenario where all those monsters you killed at lower levels now carry 2 or 3 gold instead of 2 or 3 silver or a handful of coppers, and even the grunts are using tier 7 items). But so far the story seems to be good and the companions I've recruited so far are well written.

Coelocanth: they don't carry over into Awakening, except the Return to Ostagar items. This is by design, although I'm unclear as to the exact reason behind it.

The Power of Blood special ability earned at Soldier's Peak were supposed to carry over. As for the items I have the Helm of Honnsleath (sp?) earned from Stone Prisoner. I believe if you have the Mod Manager installed it may override which items make it through and which don't. Some however are gone for good.
Oh and if the only bug you have experienced is the pick pocketing you have been lucky. Unusually for them this has a lot of bugs some being gamebreaking. A few quests cannot be competed because markers are not properly set, plot creatures fail to spawn and there is a rather amusing rendering glitch which causes the entire rendering engine not to work for the environment.
Actually, I have that glitch with the Power of Blood abilities as well. Forgot about that one.
I'm aware of the other bugs people are reporting, too.
A lot of it has to do with the 1.03 patch, which was a pretty borked up patch. Some of the quest-breaking issues have turned out to be due to installed mods and some have turned out to be the result of people not understanding how to complete them though. But yeah, there are reports of lots of other things as well (many reports of CTDs). It remains to be seen what else I'll run into once I finish the game.
