It seems that you're using an outdated browser. Some things may not work as they should (or don't work at all).
We suggest you upgrade newer and better browser like: Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or Opera

Hi,
I just got the same problem as 'SepticLemon' in the thread 'http://www.gog.com/forum/general/issues_with_using_gog_downloader_with_google_chrome'.
He didn't get an answer back then, maybe I do have more luck :-).

It seems that the protocol 'gogdownloader:' is not registered in Chrome and so chrome just does not do anything when I click the download button. I even (boldly) added 'gogdownloader:' to the 'Local State' file of chrome's local application data, but it gets removed again, when chrome is started.

It is probably just a wrong setting in my chrome settings, that the registration of 'gogdownloader:' protocol fails.
Any suggestion is highly appreciated.

Btw. I uninstalled the dowloader and removed all 'gogdownloader' entries in the registry and installed the downloader again ... no change.

I am running Windows 8.

Best regards,
Lutz

It's a known problem with Chrome and Windows 8, hopefully the next version of the downloader will fix it. Can't recall there being a solution for it, but you can check the sticky thread to see if you have any luck.
Upgrade from Chrome to Firefox. It's all around a better browser: more open, more reliable, more customizable, and, most importantly, not controlled by the excessively paternalistic Google.

If your problem with Chrome is Google, then you can also use SRWare Iron. It does lack automatic updates, but that is a conscious decision.
GOG Downloader URLs are working for me with SRWare Iron on Windows 8.1, so I guess one option could be to migrate sideways to that until the issue is resolved in Chrome itself; Iron is derived from Chromium so extensions etc. are compatible.

SRWare Iron looks fantastic.
At this first glance I don't even see a difference to chrome. If I can be sure there's no hidden/unwanted communication to some arbitrary company, I call this the better choice to chrome/chromium. I just trust the open-source community here.
The downloader works also.

Thanks a lot for the solution :-).
