Thyrandor: OK, fixed it. I read somewhere that GOG.com downloads are mirrored via a service called edgecastcdn.net. I found that Avira had just checked such an URL clearly belonging to a GOG.com download (Evil Genius). I added Edgecast to the whitelist, and the problem is gone!

JMich: I think that the free games are hosted on another server, so do make sure to check it, if they also give you trouble. Nice to see you got it sorted though, enjoy your game.
This also might be the case. As I remember correctly some content is also stored at Amazon.
