Hi,
I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this, so feel free to tip me off about the right place.
For about a week now, the Downloader (3.0.40) has been horribly slow, with download spedd of about 300 bytes to 1 KB. It worked flawlessly before, I'm not aware of having installed anything lately that might be causing this. Normal download from GOG.com work fine, the downloader works fine on my laptop (both systems are Win7 64 with German language and all the newest updates). Any ideas what might be causing this?

Best regards,
Thyrandor

Might be some other application on your PC makes it slower? Or maybe you just downloaded on an ocassion where a lot of other people were downloading. Alan Wake was just released with good sales and it's a chunky game, might be people who're downloading that are taking up more of GoG's bandwidth? Other than that, i have no idea what it could be.

The dedicated GOGer for the downloader is always looking for input. And it is better to have everything in one place.

Thanks a lot! When I read this, I remembered I had recently updated my anti-virus program (Avira Antivir) to premium. It has a "browser protection" mdoule that never interfered with anything else. WHen I turned it off, DL speed went up to the expected 1 MB+. No idea why it should behave like this, really, but my problem is solved. SOmehow, the browser protection interferes with the Downloader. I'll test some more...

Glad to be of service:P
OK, fixed it. I read somewhere that GOG.com downloads are mirrored via a service called edgecastcdn.net. I found that Avira had just checked such an URL clearly belonging to a GOG.com download (Evil Genius). I added Edgecast to the whitelist, and the problem is gone!

Absurdly slow. I have Comcast's slowest tier and average about 1.5 Mbps

I've linked your solution for other people with similar problems in the Downloader thread. Thanks.

I think that the free games are hosted on another server, so do make sure to check it, if they also give you trouble. Nice to see you got it sorted though, enjoy your game.

This also might be the case. As I remember correctly some content is also stored at Amazon.
I downloaded Alan Wake with the downloader in no time, a lot better than the last time I used it.
Just noticed this is not a question. No rep for me:(
Thanks for the advice, I have Avira and had the same problem which I just fixed from your advice,

Cheers,

Peter
