Uplay doesn't bother me. :)

Hoops? Buy it on Uplay or register the key on Uplay, go into offline mode, play whenever you want however you want. It's exactly like Steam and if Steam is too many hoops you're going to seriously be lacking in new games to play.

Well you have to assign any modern game to your Uplay account to activate them, then they appear in the client automatically. At least that was my experience. I loaded it up the first time and there were all my games.

I'm still hoping for an option like Steam/Origin, where I can buy in the US, register and then simply download via the nearest server.

It works in the same way as a retail bought Steam game when you are installing. You get a pop up window asking for the key during installation and it ties it to your UPlay account.

You can't add keys of previously bought games though. I have Splinter Cell Conviction on Steam and it uses the mini client and my UPlay account shows all my unlocks etc in it, however the game itself isn't available through the UPlay client.

What is the difference? Any Uplay game requires you tie it to Uplay, then it is in your library. It's the same thing. Or do you mean older Ubisoft games?

Downloading a game like AC III from the US or from Germany does make a noticeable difference ;-).

With Steam/Origin it downloads from the closest server.

It is no biggy, but it can be a pita. (Although I'm suspecting that Amazon has started putting their US only games on European servers ... )

What I don't understand in this particular case is: you buy the game through steam and get steamDRM. Then, you see it has another online-activation-wrapper named UPlay. It is still 2 DRM that do the exact same thing. Sorry man, but I just want to play the games I buy, not activated them. Steam is easy, simple (). Adding to it is just overkill, whatever the excuse. That's precisely why I boycott Ubisoft, they're kinda crazy about thinking that people that buy their game are criminals. Even if they did their [url=http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2012/09/05/ubisoft-drm-piracy-interview/]meaculpa.

It is said that the whole point of the DRM is the prevent piracy. Now, I'm starting to doubt it.

Also, you somewhat have some balls coming here saying "DRM isn't a big deal." ;)

Ubisoft never dissapoints

In case no one has mentioned it, Steam bought Uplay titles are not treated the same by the Uplay client as Uplay titles bought elsewhere. This means that if you have several Uplay titles from a non-Steam source on one profile then add a Steam bought Uplay title to that same profile, you won't be able to play it directly from the Uplay client -- you won't even see it in the same game listing within Uplay. You will have to go through Steam. So ultimately, you'll need to deal with two clients instead of one.
