Considering That the game is the spiritual successor to Baldur's Gate, Planescape: Torment, and Icewind Dale I doubt.
But like I said don't you get tired of live action sometimes that you find it exhausting dodging and blocking attacks.

Less than I get tired of waiting 5 minutes for my PC to finally get a turn in the Adytum fight in Fallout (btw, whoever had the bright idea of giving turns to neutral NPCs during combat in Fallout needs to be shot).

And as I said, it's not like only real time action RPGs are made these days. Just check Spiderweb's games and you can get some fun turn-based combat.
As long as the combat system is fun, I don't care all that much whether it's turn-based, real time with pause or real time. The problem is that there are actually few RPGs that have a fun combat system imo.

And I'm hopeful that XCom is successful enough to show publishers that TBS is still a viable enough genre to throw a bone to from time to time.

I don't miss it because I still play them, but I do think more of them should be made.

Or at the very least active pause, especially for anything where you're controlling multiple units. Virtually the only thing I dislike about Homeworld is that it doesn't have a true active pause. Thankfully you can set up your orders while paused, but you have to unpause to issue them, which gets kinda annoying after a while.

This gen I've had the Atelier series, Disgaea 3 and 4, XCOM. Games that are a miss of turn-based/real time like Eternal Sonata, Dragon Age Origins, and Valkyria Chronicles.

There are loads of them still being made if you don't mind playing indies and handhelds.

I hadn't realized that TBS games were less prevalent these days than they were before.

But I generally favor TBS just because I tend to not be fast enough for RTS.

Oh gods, that was horrendous. As much as I *LOVE* the original Fallout engine, that battle was just a huge pain in the ass.

Yes, it was. I love Fallout too, but definitely not for its combat. Any fight with a large number of NPCs involved was really annoying.

Turn-based works much better if all your enemies are small squads. For instance, the age of decadence has really fun and challenging turn-based combat, but you never fight more than 6 enemies at a time, and enemies who can't reach you just pass their turn instead of running around senselessly.

Normally I prefer turn-based, but that doesn't work well with large-scale battles or dungeons filled with trash mobs. In Fallout 1 there was this huge battle in the Boneyard, and more often than not it would lock up the game when there were only a few enemies left. Took me several retries every time. Also, when there are a lot of trash mobs, it breaks the pacing of the game and slows down the player unnecessarily.

One game that got it right is Might and Magic VII. You can switch between real time and turn-based at will, and thus use turn-based with lots of tactical decisions for difficult encounter, as well as dive into groups of weaklings in real time while tapping spacebar rapidly.

I don't miss them. I still play them.

I love Age of Wonders 1 and 2, they are my favourite.

And for RPGs? Drakensang isn't that old, and it's awesome. Civilization V isn't old either.

There's no reason to miss them if they are still avaible. But I don't feel that drive to play new game every week , so...

And I don't understand people's drive for games to be fast, either. I like AGEOD games, like Birth of America or Rise of Prussia. PC thinkg about it's turn for like 2-3 minutes every time. But damn, that AI is really human - like. I'd rather have better AI and wait longer than play with retarded half-brain like in Total War games.

yea I still play Ogre Battle 64 once every year..
Recently started re-playing Tactics Ogre and Fire emblem.

Also don't miss them but still play them. But if new ones are coming out I also buy them and play them.
