Codec problems are often caused by 3rd party codecpacks or mediaplayers.

LOL, and in this case, I'm not using any 3rd party codec packs, and have the problem, and djdarko IS using one, and it solves the problem!!!!!

Thank you very much, I would love to try that and see if it fixes the issue, but I don't know what I'm doing. What do I do, just download it and click it, does it "install" automatically or are there steps I need to take???

Sorry for the ignorance, I've never used "codecs" before or really even understand what they are, but if that fixes the issue I'd love to use them.

Okay, give me a second and I'll step you through the basic process I would go through when installing for the first time.


STEPS:

1. First screen, just press NEXT
2. select Advanced Mode
3. Select your directory to install to
4. Select Profile 9 - Lots of Stuff (-------------------- probably the only really important step------------------)
5. Press Next to skip arbitrary choices
6. Bunch of choices here, safe to just press NEXT.
7. use software decoding, which is usually prefered, can be changed later if desired.
8. use default settings and just press NEXT
9. Press Next (prefered English)
10. Press Next (x64 etc)
11. Press Next for file extensions
12. Press Next
13. Audio, press next.
14. Thumnails - press next.
15. NO THANKS - Check bottom. (------------------------- other important step------------------------------)

no problem, I really hope that it fixes the problem.

You might want to do a system restore point or something before installing this, I've been using it for years, but I would hate for this to screw up your computer.

Also keep in mind, I believe it will install the "Media Player Classic" video player, which might try to override your default video player.

Intro sound works fine here.

Latest GOG Alpha Centauri version (2.0.2.23) and latest NVidia sound driver (1.3.33.0, which come with the current 347.09 driver package) using HDMI Out to a TV.

When it comes to codecs, I have the Combined Community Codec Pack installed.

I would like to point out I was the first Nvidia user to post and was promptly ignored.. *mumble*...
I've got an extremely fresh Windows install (less than a week) and absolutely no codecs installed whatsoever.

But are you using the Nvidia sound through an HDMI cable (or DVI cable with both video and sound) or do you get your sound directly from the on-board sound (by plugging in a headset or speakers into the back of the motherboard instead of the video card)???

Now that you mention it, I just remembered I'm actually using the DVI Out with a DVI2HDMI cable and not the HDMI Out for my TV.

Edit: I forgot to mention: OS: Win7/64bit.

Yeah, and you ARE using third party codecs. It seems those that are using some codecs don't have the problem. I'm not using any, and I am having the problem. So, when I feel brave enough, I'm gonna follow djdarko's excellent step by step above and give it a try to see if the codecs fix my issue. Now that you're the second one saying it works, and you are using some special codecs, I think the odds are it will fix the issue.

What I'm afraid of is will it cause any new issues with all of other games???? LOL, cause I won't know what to do if it does.

I have never had any problems with any games with the Combined Community Codec Pack. That's probably because it is actively being supported. Just install it, leaving all options at default should be no problem at all even for a beginner.

And if you are running into troubles simply uninstall it, it cleans up pretty well after itself which certainly can't be said for many codec packs. Especially KLite was known to cause problems and not uninstall properly but I admit that's many years ago. They might have improved since then.

Both and both work, although I have to set the HDMI as default in Windows if I want games to play sound on my TV.
