I just installed my first game, and clicked Options instead of just accepting the default. The only thing I un-checked was the box telling the program to install Acrobat, as I use FoxIt and am very happy with it.
If I were to have just accepted the default options, would the installer have installed this program? I hope not, and if so, I hope it can change.

Which game are you referring to by chance?

It was defaulted to install on both Fallout and Fallout 2. I wonder if GOG is getting some kick backs for the bundle or they just dont want the complaints from 1/100 people who dont have software to read a .pdf already. I also use Foxit and had to manually disable Acrobats installation.

I think you'll find most of the older games came with Acrobat so people could read the documentation. In those days programs like Foxit didn't exist. Everyone should check all the options to watch out for things like this and Direct X install which will over-ride your current version, etc.

On my freespace 2 installation, there was an option button on the corner of the very first install screen when you first double click the .exe. From there, I saw a tick box for Acrobat reader as well as path and shortcut installation.
While reinstalling it one another computer, I accidently just hit install. At the end of the game installation, I got an install box for Reader, but I just cancelled out of it and that was it.

@markstahler - you're right, we wanted to make sure that PDF files could be read after the installation was complete, so we check if Adobe Reader is installed and if it's missing it will attempt to install it. As @Muthoe pointed out, you can always can the Adobe Reader installation.
@pavid - we only install what is necessary to ensure that the game will work
We tried to make the installer as configurable as possible but at the same time, we've tried to make it as simple as possible for the average user, so that they're only a couple of clicks from playing the game.
We'll look into changing the installer, so that it checks if there is some software that handles the PDF file type. Thanks for pointing it out! :)

That would be great, thank you. But if the default action is still to install the software if it finds no PDF reader whatsoever, then that's only a slight improvement.
Personally, I would prefer a confirmation asking whether we wish to install a program other than the game we bought. If that confirmation also tells us whether it found a PDF reader, then swell. But nothing should be installed without the user explicitly agreeing to it.

I have a deeprooted dislike for Adobes Acrobat Reader. Foxit is just so nice and quick and ... just plain better IMHO.
Back on topic:
I'm voting against the Acrobat Reader install too. No automatic installation of anything besides the game, please.
I have nothing against an option though.... just please keep it unchecked by default and/or ask me at the appropriate time.

I just downloaded another game (Gothic) for the first time since I made this question. There was no Adobe install by default when I looked at the options. :)
I really enjoy GoG.
