An old local joke:
During the first world war, when Italy invaded, the young male population wasn't without options. In fact, they had many options! They could be taken by the army to fight on the front, or not. If not, then great, but if they were, well... When they came to the front, they could be put in reserve, or on the line. If they were put in reserve, then great, but if they were put on the line, well... The day could start with a general assault, or maybe it was a quiet day. If it was quiet, then great, but if there was a general assault, well... You could still be alive by the days end, or you could fall. If you were alive, then great, but if not, well... Your body could be picked up by friendly soldiers, of the enemy. If they were friendly soldiers, then great, but if it was the enemy, well... Your body could be sent to the soap factory, or the paper mill. If it was the soap factory, then great, but if it was the paper mill, well... They could make writing paper out of you, or toilet paper. If it was writing paper, then great, but if it was toilet paper, well... I guess then there was only one option left....
