DalekSec: Depends of operator, one that their name start by M, spams you constinously with offers of him and of their partners. Since I changed of operator, no more spam, only some text of addional services, but rarely.
I'm using Orange now, apart from the two SMS per week, they call me in a regular basis to "offer" me promotions because "I'm so loyal a customer" (the actual fact is I've been with them way more than the required 18 months, so I'm free to migrate as soon as I wish, accepting one of their offer would mean I'd be tied again :D).

I used MoviStar long ago, but I grow tired of their uncaring customer support (though that might be said of both companies, I suppose). ;)

blotunga: Easy.. autoreject unknown callers and private calls ;)
It's messages, not phone calls (also, phone calls from my operator are very rare and are usually of some importance or ACTUAL offers that might make sense for me).

Thespian*: However, you get constant marketing calls from the rival companies, that's way far more annoying. Grrr!
Oh yeah, my parents get those in Germany. Hasn't happened to me yet.

I think it's pretty much universal. My operator likes to send me email spam. Well, I guess they call it advertising.
Never text, sometimes calls but because I am refusing them and try to not sign anything where they ask for consent to sharing my info they call very rarely. Once per 3 months or so.
Yes, they do it in Israel as well, however if you call their service center and ask them to remove you from their mailing list, they are obligated to do this by law.
I get a text message at least once a day. Sometimes even twice. It's usually the same offers that I ignore.

They usually never call, but last year, I was being called to change from my pre-paid plan to a contract. I was called several times and I always told them the same: "If you can't offer me a plan that is less than 10$ a month, don't even waste your and my time".

One day they did called me with an offer of $6 a month with 100 free minutes. But it didn't include data and adding data was $10 extra so I didn't take it, since I pay $15 a month and I get 30 days of data and the equivalent of $75 in minutes.

F4LL0UT: So, last year I switched to a new mobile phone operator and I observed something I hadn't ever seen before: spam. I keep getting messages with offers from the operator or their partners. The amount of those varies but lately I'm getting like two of them a day. It's incredibly annoying since normally when I get a message it's for a good reason and is more urgent than say an email.

The thing is that before I switched to this particular operator (one of the most popular ones in Poland and also a pretty good one, as far as I can tell) I had *never* seen anything like this, neither in Poland nor Germany. The only messages I got from my earlier operators concerned important stuff, for instance I'd get warnings when I was about to use up all my free minutes.

I was wondering whether it's actually a perfectly common thing these days (not just in Poland or Europe but in general) and in fact my earlier operators were exceptional in that they didn't bombard me with spam.
its usually common practice and you should be able to call them and tell them to take out the notifications and adverts of your contract, its standard in these contracts that they are allowed to send you messages but some make much more use of it than others
same, quite common here 2-3 time through sms not cal

Yeah, I should probably give it a try. It's getting really irritating (and I'm not even getting as much spam as some others have mentioned here - unbelievable).
Nope, almost none at all. I think I got one three months ago, but these are rare and far between.

I have Play. And they are sending me messages almost on a daily basis by now, today I got two.

That's strange. I've been in Play for 4 years and nothing similiar happened to me. You've got to contact the operator's support, I guess.

Yeah... most of the time it's trivial stuff, like a song that all people calling me are gonna hear but also upgrades to my contract and stuff. Maybe they are favorizing me because the package I picked was among the most expensive ones for individuals at the time. :P

usually a clause in the contract that says unless you specifically state you do not want to receive marketing calls from them and "selected 3rd parties" they basically see it as permission to do it
