Adzeth: Old fans are rarely happy with change, because it's not what they're looking for. I think it's reasonable to complain about it. It's not like the complaining has any effect other than help get rid of some frustration (or maybe wallow in it if that's your thing), and perhaps annoy someone who takes people's complaining seriously
It's fine, and I certainly did it when Morrowind turned into Oblivion, but at the same time good games should always be good games. A lot of time the butthurt change haters somehow scream loud enough to convince the general public that good games are bad games, and that sucks.

Oh yeah. I forgot about that one. Never tried it myself, but hd multiplayer metroidvania sounds rather interesting doesn't it?

I just thought about Adventure Rebirth since I did get that one.

I guess the complaining could be more articulate and honest.

"This isn't the Castlevania/DMC I'm looking for" he whimpered as he wiped a lone tear off his cheek with the jedi mind trick motion.

I've never been the type for multiplayer but yes it does sound interesting, I almost went for it, I hear it's pretty deserted now though and it's almost impossible to play by yourself.

I hadn't seen your reply about LoS before. Yes I wonder what merit I have to complain about them not making 3DS one a metroidvania when the series already had plenty of games before SotN introduced the style. You're right about the series reinventing itself with various different titles.

About LoS in particular, I enjoyed Patrick Stewart, not so much the combat and platforming, but admit they cared enough to add things like the Vampire Killer song, even if only in music box form.

The reason I brought it up is due to the money it made affecting the design of the next handheld Castlevania, despite them seeming very separate at the time LoS came out. It makes me wonder if with DmC making money, which I think it will, and not having the benefit of splitting the series into console and handheld games, we will ever see the series return in some form to the style and tone of the older ones.
I'll do the boring thing and just say that I'm looking up to DMC. Everything I've heard and read about it so far actually intrigued me. Sure, the way the new team reinvented the series reminds me of the Super Mario Bros. movie ("hey, a dystopian scifi scenario with human-dinosaur hybrids, rocket jumping hookers and a sect worshipping fungus will be the perfect movie adaptation of a colorful platform game about a plumber stomping mushrooms!") but I have the impression that the team made a good job making the content more sophisticated and improving the ancient mechanics.

The thing is that they really did neither. The content is more ham-fisted, and the "ancient mechanics" are instead a retread from Heavenly Sword. Heavenly Sword is not by any means an improvement over Devil May Cry.

If anything, something that improved on the mechanics would be Bayonetta, which is more free-form than DMC, but it is very different.
This game looks... EMO. I don't know how else to say it... it's EMO meets video games.

Ninja Theory is definitely the worst thing they could've picked for this goddamn thing. Yes let's make a goddamn They Live ripoff yes.

PC version will run at 60 frames. Smoother. Still bad.

Edit: I mean, holy shit. All that ninja theory talk of "It is 30 frames but it will feel like 60" hahahahahahaha.
PC version will be smooth. But it will still be terrible.

Triplepost.
On semi-similar things, Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance looks so much, much amazingly better. It is less visually pretty in the stages, but it certainly makes up for BEING CONSTANT, CONSISTENT 60 fps on either console. Gameplay mechanics are more refined and flexible, weapon and character design is well thought of, and it looks astounding.
On the other hand, a lot of that has to do with the pedigree of the producers and developers, god damn PLATINUM GAMES, previously Clover, makers of God Hand, Viewtiful Joe, Bayonetta, Mad World, Vanquish and Okami, and Kojima Productions makers of the Metal Gear games.
It is as much as a departure from regular Metal Gear as it can possibly be, from stealth action/third person shooter to balls to the wall crazy action, making the cutscenes of MGS4's craziest shit actually playable.

Even designwise, the character and weapon design reflect gameplay functionality. There is a goddamn cyborg boss that has a machine gun integrated in his sword's sheath. Not to shoot you with it, no, to SPEED UP THE DRAWING OF THE SWORD. Revengeance is going to be astoundingly retarded in a good way, since it is not all empty attitude, everything in it serves a gameplay function or reflects one.

Hell, it is likely that it is going to trump DmC even in the storytelling aspect, both in the serious and non-serious aspects, considering it is STILL a metal gear game. They've always had a fine balance between a story and amazing gameplay to support it, particularly since 3.

Fuck just comparing the "30 fps but feels like 60!" of DmC to 60fps footage of Revengeance is an amazing comparison. If Revengeance ends up selling less than DmC it is gonna be a goddamn travesty.

Edit2: I clearly care too much about both DmC and MGR
