So it doesn't do this on my desktop system which is windows 7 which leads me to believe it's something related to this laptop im playing. It's not an online thing either I don't think. It'll freeze for about a second every few minutes then the game goes into super speed to catch up. The internet I'm playing on is 3Mbit.

AMD X3 2.2ghz (N850)
500GB 5400RPM disk drive.
AMD 5650
4GB DDR3 Dual Channel memory.

Looking at this hardware, the only thing that makes sense would be the HD being 5400RPM but even then, the game is so darn old I can't see how it would effect it.
5400rpm shouldnt be an issue.
you sure your laptop hasn't gathered alot of dust?

maybe something wrong with the graphics card, update the drivers perhaps?
