It sits there, staring at you. You have not yet opened it. You are somewhat apprehensive.

You wonder if it will be as good as you expected. But then you remember ShmenonPie's doubts on you being cripplingly disappointed. You think perhaps it is time to open the box. It sits, staring, glistening, beckoning. You run your fingers over the box, feel its moderately stimulating textures, knowing that once you open it, things will never be the same.

You, before you even install the game, add the game keys to your Battle.net account, creating one if you haven't already. You do this because it is easier to just download that installer and store it alongside your collection of GOG installers. You sigh in relief, knowing that even if your discs were to be destroyed, and even if you were to perish, your Battle.net account would be waiting for you to download the game until the end of time. Then you run the installer, becoming more confident that you will enjoy this game no matter what it takes. The community awaits you. And you await the legendary experience of DIABLO II.

Metro09: Wow, they actually lowered the price on it? For years every time I've checked the cheapest the D2 battle chest has been is $40. Silly.

Edit: Just checked, the lowered the price by a whopping $10! Come on, Blizz!
Seriously, I checked too and had a similar reaction. I would rather not play the game than spend over $14.99 on it.

Foxhack: But all you do is right click! What is there to understand?!

What? Are you MAD? You have to install it the first time from a disc if you own them. Otherwise it's just not the same.

You shudder, not knowing what you were thinking. You resolve the issue, deciding to install DIABLO II with the discs, seeing as you own them. You decide that it wouldn't have been the same if you hadn't.

Pssst. Wrong version. The Diablo II Battlechest is updated from the box.
wait what you bought the new version of the battle chest with v1.12 oh the shame :(
v1.12 is still a great game when played single player.
the old version had the awesome v1.09 which had disc check but also included diablo 1

the new version updated to 1.12 removed the disc check as well as diablo 1

I've put a embarrasing amount of time into that game, most spend on 1.09 and before but I did play 1.10 and beyond a fair amount.

ya same here i played it all the way from 1.09 to 1.13c sheesh if it wasnt for other good games i would probably play diablo 2 forever damn baal runs it was like a drug lol

TheCheese33: You make me feel guilty for throwing the CDs away after I registered my serial with Battle.net. My copies are forever connected to the interwebs now, no need for physical wastes of space.
I have at least one (albeit pretty insignificant) reason to save mine: The Mac OS Classic versions cannot be downloaded, only Windows and OS X.

Although Starcraft on Mac OS 9 won't connect to battle.net (it can't detect my version and probably assumes it to be pirated), Diablo II still works fine.

dont forget the overpowered ,runeword overloaded pvp character duels, mules full of ears :D lol what rage i wonder diablo 3 will be able to achieve what diablo 2 was
the manual is awesome even today but this site pretty much has all the stuff you need to know
http://classic.battle.net/diablo2exp/
bookmark it and save the abuse of the manual and preserve it for the later generations

Heh if you have any questions whatsoever about that game don't hesitate to ask - I played it like a maniac almost without breaks for 8 years.
