I like Path of Exile myself. Plus its free!
Only if you can't get Path of Exile, Torchlight, Diablo II, or any others.

FoxySage: How does it compare with Path of Exile? That is, in my humble opinion, the best ARPG since Diablo 2.

Robette: That I actually don't know. After I stopped with Diablo 2 and managed to avoid ever touching WoW, I decided to stay away from Online-RPGs of any sort, which also happens to be the reason for me not playing Diablo 3.

Grim Dawn however is very good imo and the development team delivers solid work. Currently 2 out of 3 Acts are out and I already sunk 150 hours into the game. There is a good variety of builds and items. I really like the atmosphere and I have yet to encounter any serious bugs. They also manged to carry over the good aspects of Titan Quest and leaving out some of the flaws.
Oh it is early access. I'm going to wait then untill it is officially released. Looks pretty good from what i saw of the trailer though.
No. Diablo 3 is totally NOT worth it. First of all, it is NOT made by the same people/group, that created the first 2 games in the series. Then, artistically/easthetically, they moved MILES away from the spirit of the previous ones; dark, creepy, badly lit dungeons and corridors, became a tangled mess of brightly colored, cartoonish whack.

Worst part, is the ALWAYS ONLINE system. Yes, you cannot even enjoy your single player solo game, if you are not connected 24/7. The crappiest DRM-System in existence, too. Also, game started with a very aggravating system, called "REAL MONEY AUCTION HOUSE"... Not only they incorporated this ambiguous MMO type of in-game service, not only it was accompanied by extremely low loot drop rates (in comparison to the previous titles), in order to FORCE you to use it, but it was with REAL MONEY, too! God knows what happened, and they ultimately ditched it, and raised a little bit the drop rates (yet, as players say, it is still not enough).

And the tip of the iceberg? It is extremely expensive. Not only such a long time has passed since initial release (which was also buggy and a mess, very similar to an MMO launch, because it works like a bloody MMO...), but they sell those games separately, and expansion costs as much as the base game, if not more... The previous game had nice compilations, in good price. Not this one... Prepare to be milked heavily, if you don't change your mind soon enough!

My advice is to stay away from it. This game embodies what a true gog gamer should hate first and foremost; DRM, real money wasted on digital items, unable to play single player without net, constant connection, big changes from good old predecessors (in style and artwork), very high price. Diablo for Blizzard is like Command and Conquer for EA; after Blizzard North/Westwood disbanded, they turned their precious legacy into the turdiest of crap.

I am a happy owner of diablo battle chest, and i still have that Hellfire from Sierra (blizzard never saw fit to sell it, after sierra closed down even). I have burnt COUNTLESS hours in diablo 1 and 2. Yet, after i got my info right on what is the thing called "diablo 3", i did not even buy it. Even if i could easily.

Yes, I've put in 500 hours or so into D3 and its expansion Reaper of Souls (RoS). It's a beautiful and fluid game with a decent storyline. I find the combat to be more enjoyable than that of Torchlight and the story more interesting than Torchlight's.

You can try out the demo if you want and take a look for yourself. But if you do get it, also get RoS.

I like how you talk all this trash and you don't even own the game. Everything you said seems so stronK with that.

I don't mind talking trash, as long as i don't talk lies. If i made a mistake, or something of the things i said is wrong and not valid, please, by all means, do tell. I have been reading everything on this game ever since it had been in development, because i was struggling to find even one good point so i could stomach buying it, even for concluding the story of the series only.

KiNgBrAdLeY7: snip!
The vanilla Diablo is I believe just a dark spot in memories of all the Diablo 3 players.
I confess I haven't played the vanilla version, but started playing only a couple of weeks before the expansion Reaper of Souls released.

It sure is an MMO-esque game, especialy if you thing about that always online thingy, call it DRM if you want, but it is also a type of fairness of the loot system. Take the console version of the game, those don't have the always on requirement and in multiplayer games you see a lot of players having the russian's mafia weapons, that can really ruin your game experience as you are flying through levels like a hot knife through butter.

As for the Auction House and Real Money Auction House, well those are all history. The only way for you to get loot is grindind for it, be it solo or in a group.

Yes, Diablo 3 is quite expensive, the base game and the expansion costs 40€ each here (EU) some wouldn't pay that kind of money especialy for an expansion. So I suggest getting it while on sale (last time it was on sale you could get both for 40€).
Is it worth the money? You be the judge.
I played cca. 900 hours in total for let's say I bought them on full price (which I haven't) that's around 10c for 1 hour of entertainment. (And with those 900 hours is my most played games of all the collection)

And I plan to play it some more when they release the new patch with some new content added.
I say yes, it is worth it. And as others have pointed out, the starter edition is free to play, so you can make up your own mind with the demo.
In its present state, yes. It's playable now that they've cut the crap. I've played it extensively on the 360 and I was surprised at just how enjoyable it is. I regret that I've never had the chance to play the first two games, but D3 is fast, visceral, engaging and exciting.

It's all about the loot though, less about the character. Your character will only ever differ based on your equipment. You can't define stats for your character, level along progression trees or even choose stats or skills to improve when you level up. Moves unlock on their own at certain levels. Character progression is 100% hands-off linear.

But as a Gauntlet-style brawler it's fun as all hell. The story is weak but it's beside the point anyway. The backdrops are particularly impressive the way they're presented and animated.

It's a fun game. I'd recommend it.
yes it really is but you kinda need the expansion. They fixed most issues at the expansion's launch that i had with vanilla...
I bought the game on 16th of May 2012 (physical copy delivery delayed). I still play it nowadays. I`m a decent player on daily basis with like 2000 hours of gameplay and i still love it. I never had any problems with Blizzards decisions so i accepted every patch "as is". Maybe Blizz made terrible mistakes with the game, maybe not. Did i enjoy it? -Yes i still do. Does it worth? imo YES, every single penny.
No. Diablo III is not worth renting. You can play it only when Blizzard's servers want you to. Like 2 weeks ago, the EU servers went down for the weekend, Blizzard decided people should go outside and play and call their gramma.

The always online DRM is not worth the headache for this still overpriced and mediocre game.
I've only put around a hundred hours into it so far, but it's been great fun and I plan to play a lot more. A resounding yes from me.
It is a ton of fun. Best APRG I have ever played. Season 2 should be coming out soon as well.
