So to close out the sale, I'm considering grabbing Depths of Peril or Din's Curse, but I wanted some pointers / impressions first. The subforum is a bit light for each, so I thought I'd take advantage of the traffic here ;)
I'm pretty sure I could fire up the demo for each tonight (I know Soldak is good with stuff like that and I'm sure they have one for each - well, I'm guessing). But assuming I don't feel like doing a marathon demo run of two games, which seems a bit like work (albeit the best kind of work!), I'd love any thoughts.
I'm STRONGLY leaning Depths of Peril, because the diplomacy / faction system sounds really fun. I think the only reason I'd be turned off would be if it's broken / boring / a chore to navigate - but from reading it seems like something that would be up my alley. So I wouldn't mind impressions on that, plus the general "level up" mechanics, skills, classes, loot etc.
The reasons I might go Din over Depths - it's the newer of the two, so presumably it might have more polish? Also, I love the idea of being able to mix and match skill trees. If this is present in Depths that would probably make up my mind completely. So I'd like any thoughts about that.
The reason I'm a bit hesitant to rely on a demo here is I think the aspects I care about most (diplomacy in Depths, "multiclass" skill tree mixing in Din's) probably wouldn't be fleshed out in a truncated demo.
So, please fire away!
