Info about a defective USB drive causes Ubisoft to lower the price to $70 ??? . . . =)

Seems lowering the price will be cheaper than replacing the defective device ?? It will do much to improve their reputation as well ;)

Well the game is pretty defective anyway. :P So lowering the price is perhaps the only realistic option. I'd imagine they've already shipped copies out to stores now, so replacing the drive would require a recall.
