So the entire system is going full circle. Developers who once fled to the consoles due to piracy being the bane of sales are losing money to shops like Gamestop that resell their games and they don't get a bit of the profits. Obviously DLC hasn't been helping their funds either, so tactics like this are being done. THQ started the bitching and now Sony is implementing measures to do this. I can imagine more developers are going to start doing this.

I also know this is an MMO and slightly different than a standard SP game, but you know other companies are going to latch on to it to stick it to Gamestop.
Oh no... Hopefully this will only be with mmo's, because if they start doing this with lots of games, I can't see why people would still buy them.

Not really. Its already happening with digital distribution. And more and more games/software are sold through online stores, you lose more and more of your freedom of what you purchase and on. If you don't believe me, wanna trade some games on Steam? Or even here, GoG?

Well technically one can still do trades and second hand sales with digital copies, but they need to be DRMed for it to be analogous to what one could do with the hard copy. I think I've heard of some distributors allowing buy backs/trades (Green Man Games? or something?) but they use DRM to do it. Of course Steam has DRM so there isn't really a reason they can't allow trades or re-sells, but they don't.

It'll happen eventually but I don't know why this MMO is a sign of it. Final Fantasy Xi waaaaay back on the PS2 did the same exact thing.
The game disc was never important in a MMO anyway, everyone knows it's the account key that counts. This is what is stolen out of PC MMO gameboxes, not the disks.
