I just spotted Darkout beta appearing on Desura and GamersGate.

It looks very nice, and I was just wondering if anyone have tried it yet, and if it can be recommended - specially considering that I never got on with Terraria very much (don't know why...)

I can't remember where I read it but apparently, at this point in time, the game is relatively empty and I read something to the extent of "the best strategy for survival is to box yourself into the ground and not move."

EDIT: Ah, here it is. http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/forums/showthread.php?9437-Darkout-has-anyone-from-here-bought-the-game&p=249105&viewfull=1#post249105

Cheers. I will wait a bit and see how it goes before trying this one then.

Hahhaha.
Ironic that it supposedly "released" today which is utterly confusing because patch 0.3.1 came out a week ago.

Surely they mean beta or alpha release? the game seems way to far from a 1.0 release yet

Nope. It was in alphafunding meaning it wouldn't show up there. Also, it used to say "beta release" or something. Now it says "full version."

hm, not sure what to say about that. it just looks a little to unfinished yet...
Does anybody know if Darkout can be played using a XBox 360 Gamepad? I can't find any information on which controllers are supported, neither on Desura nor on the developer's homepage.

Thank you.
I'm aware that this is a necro, but better I think to resurrect an old thread than to start a new one without any history.

A kind GOGlodyte dropped a Steam key to this game the other day in the forums, and I picked it up. I'm not sure why I installed it right away, what with my GOG backlog scraping 200 games, but I've been loving it since I did. It's in the Spelunky/Terraria line and I've only been playing it for a few hours, so maybe I haven't advanced far enough to find the holes in it. But the early game is a beautiful piece of work.

It's the kind of thing that I can't play without watching a couple of videos (Minecraft was the same way), and I'm consulting the Wiki a lot for some persnickety controls that aren't as obvious as I might like. Apart from that, though, it's lovely. The game is actively being expanded, with more content coming along in time.

Anyone else played it?

It's $15 on GG but if it ever goes down I'll for sure check it out. It's also a relatively low DRM title (which with STEAM and GG means a little but not killer) so that helps.

It was in Groupees' Build a Greenlight Bundle 2 one year ago.
