A another new game on gog! WooHoo!
I have never played this game but the images look very nice. Does anyone know about this game or have played it before?
Thanks

There's some discussion in the Darkstar One forum area. Demo does a decent job of giving you an overview of mechanics, but I've not played it to know how well the full game and story arc pans out.
Good game but not great as Freelancer and Freespace series but if you like these games go and buy it. I finished the game and really enjoyed it.
DS-1 is a devious game. It makes you believe you got freedom to do whatever you want, but it'll keep pushing you in a distinct direction.
Apart from that everything is well implemented. Visuals are nice, without requiring a nuclear processor. Controls are easy to understand as well.
Damn you GOG, I bought DS1 off the discount rack in my local Target a few months back. Now I'm stuck with the DRM (TAGES) version of the game while you have a nice DRM free version available. I can't keep re-buying games from you...
Anyway, its a great game, a lot like Freelancer with a bit of an RPG-ish flavor, but a little light on the replay value. At only 10 bucks, that can be forgiven.
I had some interest in this game when it first came out, but ended up passing on it for a few reasons. The problems people were reporting with the copy protection being the biggest one.
Right now I have my hands full and my wallet empty, but I will more likely than not purchase it next month.

Has this version solved the problem regarding the widescreen crashes?
Widescreen crashes? I have a widescreen, I'd like to know too.
P.S. I just remembered a funny anecdote. I believe that after many people had trouble with this game's copy protection the company actually posted a link to the pirated version's crack file for them to use.

I don't believe that's true. When the problems with TAGES occurred, Ascaron worked with TAGES to get an updated version of the protection software quickly released to fix the bugs.
Found nothing confirming the crack-as-update theory, but I had a good laugh reading some of the issues people had with the DRM.
Seems like they were a little over-eager and not only halted the game when a CD emulation software was detected, but even when debuggers and taskmanagers were running :)

ive got the starforce protected version of this game, and im tempted to get this again simply because its difficult removing that protection to allow transfer to a netbook - thats if it even works on a netbook.
quite a good game though.
good game, but i have it from cover DVD of our local gaming zine :/
I don't think it's the greatest game in the world, but it's a good bit of mindless fun for sure.
Totally worth it for $10.
I've never owned it because my computer's severely outdated, but as soon as I get around to upgrading, this is a definite buy!
