Now, first of, I don't want to hear any whining about some FPS cap and whatnot, I really don't care.

But how is the game?

Is it actually fun or just overhyped. I'm watching the Amazon deal running out of time and I'm not sure if I should get it.
Personally, it's one of my favorite modern games, but it's certainly not for everyone. The main thing is that, although everyone always focuses on the difficulty, that's actually not the key aspect of it so much as a side effect. I like that it doesn't take the player for granted, and has enough faith in you to be able to handle yourself and learn from your mistakes. I also quite like the combat and character building system, and the online features are very cool.
I'm pretty sure you're just looking for some more validation, as there is already enough praise about this game on the gog forums, let alone the internet.

Yes, it's excellent and a joy. And the PC version is the best of the bunch.

Get it.

Very good game, finished it a few weeks back, very intense game that has some amazing locations.

Bosses can be tough, I had to summon help on quite a few of them must admit then helped others.

My playthrough was 90 hours, I did spend time grinding Anor Londo to level up specific skills and didn't actually go to Darkroot Basin at the bottom of Blightown. There is just so much to see in the game and when you level up you will start being able to do runs through areas just for the fun of it that caused you issues previously.

Main thing is patience, every attack you make has to have thought behind it, you see a group of enemies ahead you need to think on how you are going to tackle it. Heavy armour for example will make your stamina drain quicker which means you will barely be able to block and attack etc.

If you enjoy something with depth and tactical thought and lore for you to discover then you will love it. The only hand holding you will get is the first few corridors, from then on in you are on your own.
The swordplay is fantastic, weapons have weight and hits are satisfying, especially when you finally start getting the hang of it and really know what you are doing.

Plus it's really beautiful, I've rarely seen armour and locations done so well.

The only gripe I have with this game is how stingy and criptic the game can be with it's story, if you want to even get the basics of the lore you have to carefully listen to every NPC and read all item descriptions, and even then it's mostly just speculation. I reccommend reading the wiki even on the first playthrough.

Also a controller is pretty much mandatory.

I like the way they present the story, actually. Although i do agree it can be a little too vague in places.

As for controllers, it is probably better, but I've heard people say KB+M work fine as long as you apply some fixes.

I wouldn't really mind it either, but if you don't know exactly which items you have to look at you're going to miss some very important details.

And it's not just the story either. For example I wouldn't have had any clue at all, how to access the DLC, if I hadn't read it on a walkthrough. The same goes for NPC storyarcs.

Still the plot is actually great, with some very ambiguous characters (again if you can actually figure out how to access them).

I love Dark Souls but I find Demon's Souls better mostly bacause of Demon's Souls linearity

World 1-1 World 2-1 etc.

I like that better than the Metroidvania style world.

Yeah, I agree. I think it's a storytelling method that's very cool, but there're definitely some flaws in the way From handled it.
one of the best game i have ever played since years

minimal plot with a deep lore, characters, armor all level design is wonderful ,i suggest to play it really, one of the best gaming experience
Just get the game and the latest DSfix from HERE

They're both worth it
I've heard that the FPS fix messes with the multiplayer aspects of the game and/or GFWL, is that true?
My biggest fear was that the game was overhyped.

I guess I was wrong....

Thank you all for your input!.

Yes, sort of. It's a memory hack (or something. I don't remember), which means using it online can get you banned from GFWL. I actually like the 30 FPS limit personally, I have a mid-range computer, so it keeps my performance consistent.
