This week we present to you a pair of great real-time strategy games, scheduled for release this Tuesday.
<a href="http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/spellforce_platinum">Spellforce is a game set in a fantasy world. Create your hero - an avatar who will lead your armies - and embark on a journey to save the world. Sometimes you will be allowed a break from commanding your troops and enjoy a bit of relaxing hack-n-slash action. All this packed into a set of nice visuals, for your gaming pleasure. Stronghold Crusader, as the name implies, is set in the Middle-East, in the age of the Crusades. Compared to its predecessor, this game puts more emphasis on combat than economics and includes additional units for you to send into battle.
Nice Spellforce seemed like a fun game when I tried the demo long time ago. I am pretty sure it's going to be my next purchase after I have got Painkiller first.
Spellforce is a really good game. Awesome (and very challenging) mix of RTS and RPG (a lot of character builds, items, sidequests...)
Cool 2 great games although going for spellforce first. One thing about spellforce is it is a game you will not finish in a day. The original takes ages to complete and with the 2 additional expansions well you can kiss goodbye to any life for a while.

Aww, it's RTS not TBS? Damn. :(
I'll still probably buy it at some point but turn based games take precedence for me.

Nice. I'm considering getting Spellforce, but I tried the demo, and I really didn't like the horrendous voice acting
Can anyone sell me on Spellforce? I like the concept, but the game seems too flowery and doesn't seem to take itself seriously enough :P
Ok first things first the voice acting is bad - sadly I really can't put it any other way.
However gameplay is far more interestings :) The blend of RPG/RTS is good and the game can provide some difficult challenges. Gameplay is reletivly linear for the main story, but side quests can be taking you all over the place.
The biggest downside I found, was that load times can be very long on machines released around the time of the games oringinal release - modern machines should suffer no problems with longer load times though (which does mean you get less time to stare at the pretty art ;))
All in all its a fun game and well worth getting - put the voice acting to one side if you can and just enjoy playing the game
Thanks. So it's safe to assume that you are free to pursue sidequests from all over the place too in a non linear way? Also, one thing I read about the game was that it's basically more of an RPG than an RTS, as in your hero matters more than units. How true is this?
Your character is important to the game its the one constant on each of the games maps you cant transfer your army from one game map to the next.
The RPG elements are pretty strong but your character is not super human so having an army is a must.
The voice acting is the weakest part of the game but on the otherhand i loved the music it is one of the better soundtrack in computer games.
Your army and buildings are present only whilst you are in an map - as soon as you leave the buildings and army are lost (they are magically tied to you - so when you leave they lose their power and vanish).
Units are generic as are buildings - so your army will not gain in experience as you travel through the game, but there are runes which will upgrade the level of your army, as well as new buildings and units for you to find and buy in the game world. Further there are demi heros which are like your main character (can equip armour and weapons and use spells) but are also tied to you - they are fixed level, though there is a variety of them to choose from.
In addition when one leaves and returns to a map world resources remain fixed - thus if you mine out all the stone that is it - its gone. This means one has to finish an RTS map in a single visitation - you can't leave and come back (unless you do so right at the start beforey you harvest away the resources). The resources are generally not too limited that you can't take losess, but are limited enough that if your not good enough you will get beaten down by attrition.
Okay, looks like Spellforce is my next purchase.
Looking forward to Spellforce. Remember when I tryed it the first time. It was a awesome game.
Birger :)
Great news.
Spellforce is my next purchase then. I would love to see, Spellforce 2 also. But first thing's first.
Waiting for Tuesday. :)
In that case I guess I will buy it. Sounds good, if I can ignore voice acting
Damn it, my purchases are creating a black hole in my wallet
HOT DIGGITY! Reminds me to look for Stronghold Crusader in the stack of discs I've got here...
