HiroVoid: I don't actually have a problem with buying from Steam, but I ultimately prefer GOG's policies and business model. If the Galaxy client is required for this and why its being delayed for a two whole months, I'd rather buy it on Steam than support games requiring Galaxy on GOG.com.

Icinix: Fair enough.

I'd rather support games on GOG that use Galaxy than support games on Steam that require Steam.

I don't get why they're forcing the two together here (I honestly think they'll come out and someone will say this was a boo, boo and we'll see a D:OS launch here within a few days).
As long as Galaxy remains optional I'm all good with it but if it becomes mandatory even for a single game, that will be the day I'll say "GOG isn't much different than Steam now" and I certainly hope that day never comes.

reaver894: I hope that is the case. (i have my doubts)

Maybe he will be polite enough to actually confirm or deny this

G-Doc: Look, guys - I don't know how to put it simpler to leave no room for confusion. The game will be available to KS backers for now, but without the online multiplayer component. The full public GOG.com release is planned for August 31, as our online platform GOG Galaxy should be up to support it by then.

I'm not sure about the Sunday thing. May wait for Monday, September 1st, or go with Friday, August 29. For all we know, Sunday release is also a possibility.
Y'know... I don't make many serious posts here but I need to say this.

I'd wager there are/were a lot of hardcore Divinity/GOG fans here that missed out on the chance to kickstart this due to myriad reasons, however are/were ready to hand over their hard earned cash when release day came around. Well, release day came and went but no game was released, and a lot of fans were let down (myself included) due to a seemingly religious lack of transparency. Pretty much everyone who wasn't shaking hands with GOG/Larian/Valve executives would've figured there was an intent to release here today, but no, the only ones in the know are the ones we helped make what they are today (GOG, Larian, Valve).

I suppose there's little I could say about the situation that wouldn't come of as entitled ranting, but that's because I'm a huge fan of GOG and Divinity, or at least I was. If I'm waiting two months for the client experience, I might as well look for a different retailer because I'm going to be getting the same thing, but oh yeah, I'll be able to play the game... not in two months, but now. I'm a pretty big spender here so I feel as though I've earned, nay, bought the right to bitch a little bit.

Now don't get me wrong, I understand that Larian could have an exclusivity deal with Steam and blah dee blah... but...

*sigh*

I'm VERY disappointed as I was VERY, VERY much looking forward to playing this during my vacation, but hey, Galaxy, YOLO, and pizza, right? GOG & Larian, you both are either ball dropping boneheads or shiesty hand shakers, and the fact that you're holding out on your fans is LOW. I might not like much Steam as a service but they're pretty neutral and I've never been outwardly disappointed like I am here; this might be my second purchase from them EVER.

:-(

Disappointing GOG...

*ugh* I already have a bad feeling about the release of Wasteland 2....
Not backers have to wait two months only for an OPTIONAL client? WTF!

shmerl: Did Larian actually comment on this issue? They surely can have something to say.
Hard to talk with ones mouth full of corporate, hand-shakey weiner.
Front page of Steam: "D:OS FULL VERSION AVAILABLE".

I smell a rat.

Don't summon the Devil! The latest backer update was half an hour ago and it was filled with good news of progress. Plus, Wasteland 2 has not MP, so no need to "wait" for Galaxy.

G-Doc: I just got word that the build is up, and hurried to tell you, but I see you guys already know.

Again, sorry for the stress this situation has caused you, and for my not-so-good attempt at explaining it.

I'm sorry that I don't have better news for non-backers, as of today.
G-Doc, thanks for the updates, and I can imagine you guys are having one helluva hectic day, but honest to GOG, is this situation re the Aug 31 release date for non-backers - is this of GOG's choosing? I can't imagine it is, since you guys are going to miss out on a metric tonne of sales. People that didn't back the game but are interested in buying it are going to turn to Steam and by the time Aug 31 rolls around, that ship is going to have sailed, dropped below the horizon and probably crashed on a reef somewhere. Who thought it would be a good idea to wait for 2 months after the game was available on Steam to release it to non-backers here on GOG? This decision boggles my mind.

As a second comment, no offense intended, but GOG really, really dropped the ball as far as communication goes on this particular game release. I personally blame Larian for the the delay and most of the screw up associated with today's debacle, but GOG was woefully inadequate as far as communication goes on this one.

As a final comment, while the GOG downloader seems to be working fine to grab the game files, if you try to manually get the files from the game card, you get 404 errors. This should be corrected asap.

Yeah but Divinity does also has single player so why didn't they just release the same version as for kickstarter backers till august? Something just isn't quite right here.

Yeah - and the reason I don't think that's going to happen is D:OS is running right now without Galaxy or Steam.

I think G-Doc just has their wires crossed.

True, but there's a myriad of things that could go wrong.

At least they wouldn't have to delay the release because of Galaxy.
The idea that they're purposely holding off releasing Divinity: Original Sin to help promote the GOG Galaxy client doesn't make me think of the whole situation much better. In fact, that sounds like a terrible idea on how to promote the client.

Of course we have to wait for the optional Galaxy client because of the wonderful automatic update function :-( Wasteland 2 can not be released without this!
</irony>
That is extremely disappointing.

I'm sure Galaxy is lovely and all, but delaying the game here for two months? Really? Really? Not a good opening round for the "freedom of choice" camp...

Wasteland 2 is coming in August, so it won't be impacted much.
