011284mm: Honest truth, I can live without nudity in games. So the censored version of Gobliiins is fine as it does not ruin the game itself, though it hardly makes it child friendly anyway.

Profanity: It's that foot in the door thing, when you become cool with some sort of censorship that seems small, just tiny, then some more crap can be piled on top.

I'd rather there be none of that censorship, no matter what insignificant detail gets censored out. Or at least 2 versions should become available - the original and the cut version for whoever deems it to be more appropriate.
I know what you mean, and I agree. Yet at times it all just seems so stupid.
Why did they put naked characters into a pixel game? Exactly what level of pervert do I need to be to find that attractive?
If I want to look at naked women I know where online to go for that, any five-year-old could beat a politician to that one, and probably their parents too.

There are games where I feel the censorship is stupid and quite ridiculous to enforce (so I look for patches to break it). Bloodrayne for one, Fallout 1 & 2 for two more. Those are stupid levels of censorship, as what they remove from the game was placed there to add to the games atmosphere and narrative. The designers wanted it there for people to enjoy, why remove it?
Yet when the GTA games arrive, I know that GTA:SA will have the hot coffee mode completely removed. This is stupid as it was originally cut from the game, and to put it in you actually needed to go through some real effort. Yet it will be done just to save those poor individuals who have breakdowns every time they think of how they came to be.
It is these individuals that require censored versions and trust me, when they begin to censor a game because of something stupid I will complain, but not over some nudity.

As for censored versions, if there were an 18/M versiiion and a PG version I would of course buy the 18/M. Not because I am a pervert, but because I like to play games as they were intended.
The real life result though is - I buy the PG version and enjoy the fact the game is intact as the game. i will just go take my clothes off and look in a mirror if I really need to see some nudity.

The problem is exactly the opposite. What kind of idiot would assume that the point of nudity here is (the player's) "attraction" or "perversion" or anything like that. It's a joke (use thing on thing, naked woman pops up with effect on other character, exploit this, solve level, lol), and the fact that some puritan retard waves his bible and yells that "oh noes our children will masturbate at it and get naughty thoughts into their souls and go to hell for eternity we must prevent that" is just spoiling the completely unrelated fun. In a way, I probably prefer when the censorship is about something important, than some so immensely stupid and insignificant detail. It gives me an impression of frightening, capricious, intolerance, and, actually, this is why I find immensely perverse (the fact that some decision maker sees "perversion" in it tells a lot about him, and the fact that he's endorsed to enforce a change in the game tells a lot about society). "Slapface" censorship freaks me out way more than expectable, arguable, censorship (about something that is, at least, understood and interpreted in a relevant way).

It's the censorship itself that ridiculously "sexualises" this game, this graphic, and this scene. And that is what is actually, deeply disturbingly creepy...

I hate to jump in here with a silly tech question but I can't seem to find a difference from the regular and floppy other than music. A post in the Goblins forum says the difference is one has talking but they both seem to. Any ideas my faithful companions?

I get your point, but surely given time, games like music and movies will be allowed freedom from these particular individuals of the world, or games makers will learn to make them more appeasing to the dumb.
These particulars of life always get board so quick and need to bash out on something else (let me know if you get it), all we need do is wait them out and in a few years maybe we can have back our better, badder and uncut versions of games.

As far as I originally meant, I just mean these games are still good even if they need censoring in some bureaucratic state somewhere, because this particular censoring does not damage the game itself.
Just imagine if Lara Croft was forced to go around waving mobile-phones at the local wildlife, now that would be stupid censorship and would damage the gameplay.
Wow, everyone here seems to have fond memories of Gobliiins 3. Me too!
Okay so the floppy doesn't have talking but it doesn't have annoying music. The regular has the talking but annoying music. I'd like the talking but is there any way to turn off the music?

If I'm not mistaken, the CD versions of the games store music and speech in a single track, which would mean, unfortunately, that you can't have one without the other. Therefore, if you edit the game's *.ini file and set the music volume to 0, it'll disable speech as well. I might be mistaken, though.

Not a biggie. THANKS again. I am totally loving these. Playing these while I watch the hockey game. Almost makes me forget I don't have a life!

I owe you. :D

This. And it gets so bad that British publishers of (translated) French and Belgian graphic novels go out of their way to censor every stray nipple, to be more marketable to Americans.

Back in the early nineties there were many adventure games with story and puzzles and humor but none of them had that crazy level of humor as Goblins series.

So the only purpose of nudity in a game is for the player to find it attractive? Grow up man!

That... is an extremely good point. It's harmless cartoon nudity, but the fact that it even occurred to someone to censor it makes me realise that there are some strange people in this world.

So what is the context? This isn't like a National Geographic special. All I heard was "Goblin Titties"; are all the Goblin women uncovered because that is the norm in their world or something?

I still think for these small, old games it is a big overreaction, though, and that
Telika is angry at the wrong people - shouldn't it be DotEmu rather than GOG?

Why does it need justifying? It's there because that's how the artist drew it. I assume Telika's objection is on principle rather than because it ruins the game.

And it's fine to complain to GOG, they're they ones who have the power to source an uncensored version (not that I think it's likely to happen).

I would want to know WHY I should get worked up over this. What is the goblin girl doing? I'm assuming it's not suppose to be sexual from your reaction. (EDIT: I haven't played the game so I don't know if it's one you control, if there are other animated NPCs, etc.)

Honestly, though, it's probably just best for me to stop posting here. This isn't my fight, it doesn't bother me that GOG is not spending their time trying to get the uncensored version when they're preparing Wizardry 8 and (hopefully) other good old games, which is much more important to me personally. (I will fight for the creation of patches that improve stability and the inclusion of soundtracks of bonus material [among other things], however. :P)

But obviously this is important to others, and freedom of speech and all that, so it's their right to fight for it.

Obviously necessary censorship.
