Sandboxes red with blood.

Far Cry 1 and Far Cry 2, the first two iterations of the 10-year old series of FPS games with versatile mechanics, huge worlds to explore, and realistic presentation creating a truly immersive experience, are available 75% off on GOG.com. That's only $4.98 for both ($2.49 each) for the next 24 hours!

A tropical paradise seethes with hidden evil in [url=http://www.gog.com/game/far_cry]Far Cry, a cunningly detailed action shooter that pushed the boundaries of combat to shocking new levels.Freelance mariner Jack Carver is cursing the day he ever came to this island. A week ago, a brash female reporter named Valerie had offered him an incredible sum of cash to take her to this unspoiled paradise. Shortly after docking, however, Jack's boat was greeted by artillery fire from a mysterious militia group swarming about the island. With his boat destroyed, his money gone, and the gorgeous Valerie suddenly missing, Jack now finds himself facing an army of mercenaries amidst the wilds of the island, with nothing but a gun and his wits to survive. But the further he pushes into the lush jungle canopy, the stranger things become.

Far Cry 2, developed by Ubisoft Montreal, takes many of the great ideas from the previous game and improves upon them, making a pulse-pounding, high-speed shooter that roars through the beautiful, if sere, environments of Central Africa. With stunning visuals and deep gameplay, this game takes everything you liked about Far Cry and ramps it up to 11. You are a gun for hire, trapped in a war-torn African state, stricken with malaria and forced to make deals with corrupt warlords on both sides of the conflict in order to do what it takes to take down the Jackal, a dirty arms merchant who has made your new homeland a war-torn hell.

Played side by side, Far Cry 1 and Far Cry 2 will provide you with dozens of hours worth of stealth, action, explosions, tactics, and adrenaline rushes. Pick them both up for only $4.98, or either one of them for just $2.49! The 75% off Gem Promo discount lasts only until Tuesday, April 22, at 9:59AM GMT.
Who is this anyone, and why is everyone so concerned about what they have to say?

haydenaurion: Thoughts on Far Cry 2? Kinda interested, but have heard it has some annoyances.

RabiatorG0G: Fenixp created a thread a month ago, I guess all the pros and cons are to be found in there.
Yeah, based on that info I have a feeling it would burn me out before I finish it. Thanks for the thread link!

J_Darnley: Farcry 2 is shit! Don't let anyone tell you different.
avatar
IwubCheeze: Lol, if this doesn't make anyone more comfused whether or not to buy FC2, I don't know what will :)
If you want my direct suggestion, here it is: DO NOT PAY MONEY FOR IT!

If you want a slightly less biased (but biased in favour of it) and longer review, read the thread someone else linked to, the one encouraging people to give it a second try. He does mention some of the cons.
I already have these games. Can I use the discount for something else on Steam? :P

yea. why buy something on Steam when you can get something for him? what's the matter with you?
Wasnt this on promo a while ago????

Austrobogulator: To me, it was a wonderfully unique and atmospheric open-world FPS. It has a few hiccups, but those things are easily outweighed by what the game does right.
One of the reviews said it was "But none of them helps the fact that the game is boring and repetitive."...whats your take on It?. and yes im one of those who might be bothered by the respawn outpost and malaria game mechanic....(even though i keep wondering if i should buy FC2..have FC 1 on gog and on disk & also FC3... enjoyed both..)...

I'm interested in FC1, because it has better reviews than its sequel.
However, it seems to have problems too: is there a patch\mod that fixes the enemy difficulty or the checkpoint placement after half game? Why does someone say that it's just a big tech demo? :\

How was FC1 for you? Did you notice the previous mentioned issues?

New to the forum johnny? :P No problem. You'll soon get used to the fact that there are several of us which are fountains of perpetual silliness and bullshit. XD

BTW.
GOG is offering a bonus with this game. Whoever buys FC during this sale DOES NOT get a copy of the movie. All those who refuse to purchase will get several copies, and be tied to a chair and forced to watch all of them! MUHAHAHAH!

It can't be THAT bad. Right? Also, I question the effectiveness of buying many copies. What's the point? Just replay the one movie again and again and again.

Well, at least for me, when a game feels really immersive, it's hard for it to be boring. I suppose I really love exploring beautiful environments. I sometimes find that when when people say something is boring, it signals that it could be a game for me.

There is very little 'handholding' in Far Cry 2. I remember avoiding main objective and just wondering off for hours. I've often thought about going back to the game to find the rest of collectibles at some point, just because I love exploring the game's environment so much.

Obviously you know yourself better than I do - maybe you should avoid it if you're sure that respawning and malaria will seriously bother you. But on the other hand, if you feel like this is a game that you could really get absorbed in, then maybe it's worth checking out.

I'm working on no sleep here. Cut me some slack. :P At least the sun is up and the temp is rising so while I will get more dense I will probably get happier.

And on the other subject....I'm totally broke but normally I will gladly help something with someone if I think they REALLY want it.

I haven't played FC2 yet, but I've heard this is an interesting solution to the respawn/malaria problems:
http://www.moddb.com/mods/dylans-far-cry-2-realism-mod/downloads/dylans-realism-mod-14

It changes various mechanics slightly, but is careful to not make the game easier.
FarCry2 > FarCry1 > FarCry3.

The second is by far the best looking and most fun to play. A real gem.
