I was hoping to get this game, though it is half off, but I have read this game had been lower in the past, even charging 2.99 or even 2.50, but of course I missed this deal..

I am picky about this, because Steam already gotten me to get as cheap as possible when buyin games. Am I only one feeling this way when it comes to games?
GOG is not Steam. Deal with it. :)
Do you want DRM for an extra 50 cents or so? It aint expensive really.

Well I know it ain't expensive. I'm just questioning if it has been cheaper in the past. I am close to just getting it, but I have been without it for years that I could wait even longer. I am trying to remember if it has been cheaper in the past. I could have swore that it had been 2.99 once or twice. Every little bit of $ saved is $ earned.
I'd like to know the answer to the OP's question too. I've been following GOG sales for a few months, and the max discount seems to be 50% off?

Untrue, 60% off happens and there may even have been instances of 75% but I cannot recall for certain.

GOG is indeed not Steam, however Steam and GOG ARE competitors in one way or another

your posts do not give an excuse for Steam to outshine GOG in some parts and for the GOG staff to do nothing about it

This years Steam christmas sales were amazing, 60-80%, including daily deals with massive discounts.

Why can't GOG do something like this? yeah I understand that GOG isn't as big as Steam but that does not excuse them

1. Does Steam sell 99% of their catalog for 50% off for weeks at a time? GOG does.
2. Did Steam give away one game for free this winter? GOG did.
3. Is Steam DRM? Yes. Is GOG? No.
4. Can you lose all access to your GOG game at GOG's whim? No. With Steam, you can.
5. Missed the part where they needed an "excuse." They don't.

Steam does too. Look at their catalogue right now.

What about the reports how Steam use(d) to hike some prices just before applying the discount, in order to show a bigger discount percentage? I haven't followed Steam prices to see if there is any truth to those claims, but I think there was some discussion about that here in GOG.

Also, does Steam apply the 80% discounts also to their cheaper $6-10 games, which are the price points of all GOG games? It is easier to give big discounts to games which still list the original $50-60 price point, even if the retail price of the game has already plummeted.

Anyway, I'm sure both GOG and Steam are doing their own internal analysis of their promos and discounts, which percentages yield the best results (profits) for them. It is obvious GOG has been experimenting with e.g. the flat discounts vs increasing discounts (based on how many games on the promo you buy).

Also I presume they need approval from the game publishers for their discounts, right? So if EA says that GOG can't promote their $6-10 games with 80+% discounts, then they can't, I guess.

To digress even further from the topic, I'd pay $10 to have DRM removed off my favourite games. Take New Vegas for example. I'd even buy two copies of that if that would get me the assurance of having DRM removed for my copies.

Of course then that might just encourage publishers to exploit this even further...

At least you got fuel. All I received for Christmas from Steam was a "You are not allowed to perform this action at this time" message.

Whenever I discuss this 'issue' with myself, I think of it in terms of beer.
50p is like 1/10 of a pint of beer. And you save brain cells.
