I was just wondering if I was one of the only people here who had the pleasure of playing this awesome free game.

It's a free PC game and it's pretty cool, it's also been ported to PSP as homebrew. I really enjoyed it on my PSP.. I have difficulty with platformers on PC though..
Anyway, it's a FANTASTIC game, seriously, it was made by one person, and one person only, but if he'd had any experience before this, he would have charged for this game.
Then again, it might not have gotten around so easily if he did.. hahaha.
Anyway, if you have never heard of cave story, or have before but never checked it out, do so, and hit +1 plz.
Great game, i realy enjoyed it ;)

Cave Story really is an outstanding game. There are lots of similiar free games, but rarely any have this high level of polish and such a complete journey spanning several hours of gameplay.
In the independent games "scene" it is even hailed by many as the number one indie game.
So far I have only played through it once, but at least a second time will definitely follow :)

It's coming to WiiWare, actually. Maybe that same expanded version could be sold on GOG somehow? It'd be nice to have some way to send some money to Pixel for making an awesome game, without also having to buy a Wii.

I'm not familliar with their website to know if they have a donate button or not.

The guy explicitly refused donations of any sort, IIRC. Site's , by the way. Which links to the upcoming [url=http://www.cavestorywii.com/]Wii version's site as well.

Well, you learn something new every day I suppose.
It would be pretty fantastic if they some how were able to distribute Cave Story on here...
Far from it. I've played it a while back, though I need to finish it. (Unfortunately, I lost all of my progress...)
Still, this game is spreading like wildfire. First, the PC version, then a homebrew Xbox port, then a homewbrew PSP port (I actually heard about this AFTER discovering the Xbox port), and now an upcoming WiiWare port. It deserves it, though, and I'll probably end up buying the WiiWare version if it has enough bonus content, or maybe buy it just to support Pixel.

I'm fairly sold on the Wii version, extra content sounds fun!
I'm a freeware PC game whore, I seek them out and devour them. Cave Story was amazing and got me into watching out for them, but it's just the tip of the iceberg.
Anyone played An Untitled Story, Knytt Stories, Bonesaw, I Wanna Be the Guy, Grid Wars (lol copyright), La Mulana, Maze of Galious, Hurrican, Jumper, or Iji? I love free stuff, especially when it's so good.

I have not tried those games. I know about I wanna be the Guy though, I'm intimidated.
I Wanna Be The Guy: Some GameSpot forum poster mentioned it, and my view on difficult games has never been the same again-especially after watching Cloud8745 and UltraJMan play through it. Of course, I had to try and beat it myself; I'm currently in the Castlevania section, trying to get to Dracula. (The screen with the moving platforms and the save point at the other side on Hard is screwing me over, though.)
Bonesaw: UltraJMan's Let's Played it on YouTube and Something Awful. I haven't actually bothered to watch it, though, mostly because of that stupid crap he's been pulling recently on YouTube.
La-Mulana: Mentioned in the TTLG freeware thread, then discovered DeceasedCrab's Let's Play of it on YouTube. I'll get to it sooner or later, though I don't know if I'll stay sane long enough to get through Hell Temple.
Maze of Galious: DeceasedCrab LPed this game, or rather, a PC remake of it that had features like swappable tilesets. This remake was apparently done by the developers of La-Mulana, which would explain why that game feels quite a bit like this one.
Knytt Stories: Mentioned in the TTLG freeware thread, just like the original Knytt and Seiklus. I haven't played it yet, though, and won't until I complete the first Knytt.
Iji: Mentioned somewhere on HG101. I've played through it Rambo-style and am at Sector 9; as soon as I beat it, I'll make a pacifist run. Great game, though the inability to fire while in mid-air can be irritating.
An Untitled Story, Grid Wars, Hurrican, Jumper: Haven't heard of them, though I keep hearing about a "Jumper" in the IWBTG forums.
So, the Wii version's site is now up, there's also an interview about the game here.
An Untitled Story, Grid Wars, Hurrican, Jumper.

I recommend them! Untitled Story is sort of like Seiklus, Grid Wars is a freeware ripoff of Geometry Wars (except better imo), Hurrican is a freeware remake of Turrican with nice big levels of fun weapons, and Jumper tries (and does a good job at) being a pure, hard-as-nails platformer.
the only thing that bugged me about grid wars was the need for a joystick.. I don't like pulling mine out often.
Anyway, the other thing I was going to say, was I quite often compared my psp screen to the Wii screenshots and could hardly notice a difference, I believe though the Wii version is probably supposed to be run at a higher resolution though. I don't know, I hope they release a demo of it before hand so I can try it out before I buy it. I'd also like to see it multiplatform, but you know how those things go.
