mondo84: Can't be worse than the "Doom" movie.
Bloodrayne disagrees with you.

Actually anything by Uwe Boll is worse than Doom.

The only decent movie based on a game that i have watched was POP The Sands of Time. It was not a great movie at all, but honestly it was decent. I would certainly like a second movie on the series. There's a subtle mention to Dahaka in the first one, so i guess it's possible.
Uwe Boll did make 2 good movies though. Tunnel Rats and Rampage.
oh dear god oh man why no please god have mercy fuck shit no dear god oh man please why no god damnit fuck no no no no no no no no no
The best part of the Doom movie was that sequence at the end when it became a shooter. I remember nothing else from it. There isn't a culture of film success that precedes Wolfenstein and I fear this will be another flop. But I'm forever hopeful...

Magnitus: I make a point to avoid movies based on video games unless people rave about it (which hasn't occurred yet).

Video games based on movies have fared somewhat better (most still suck, but occasionally, you'll see a good one).

I enjoy playing video games and I enjoy watching movies, but I don't really have a problem with compartmentalizing my hobbies.
By and large yeah, I've argued with folks about it in the past and for a game to work as a film you pretty much have to rewrite from scratch and then deal with all the people being pissed off because you didn't write the movie they were playing.

I happened to like Postal, but it's very much a hit or miss proposal, I don't think many people are particularly neutral on the subject. Personally, I think that for what it was it was great, not a great movie of all time great, but did a pretty good job of capturing the spirit of the game.
nvm,

This one can go either way really. If it's appropriately tongue in cheeck kind of a thing, then it might just turn out entertaining.

Mecha-Hitler would definitely be worth the price of admission alone. Maybe they could get Martin Wüttke to unofficially reprise the role?
Interesting, cruising the list o films based on video games I see Assassin's Creed is likely to be getting a film. That seems like a substantially better idea than doing a Wolfenstein movie.
Another shitty Doom-alike Hollywood comic in 3, 2, 1....
Postal and Farcry were better movies than games.
the only thing i remember on castle wolfenstein is that screensaver showing the girls of the castle wolfenstein back then

Assassin's Creed has all ready been getting live action shorts for a while, and I could definitely see potential with Creed's concept. The thing that they must avoid, however, is telling the same story. Not only could we, you know, play the game but the story in itself is too bloated and convoluted. Choose a new setting (or stick with Renaissance, if you must) but definitely pick a new character to follow and a simpler way to explain the animus. Could totally work.

As for Wolfenstein, I don't think it's the worst idea ever. I know for certain that the only way you could make the movie interesting is as outlined here. Turn it into self-aware camp otherwise you'll be caught up in your own silliness. What it comes down to though is that the movie itself is still not likely to be interesting mainly due to the fact that it's "Shooting Nazis and fighting Mega-Hitler". Very little room for a really understanding plot here...
I'll wait until any concrete facts come out for this, until then, it's all hype and speculation

Remember how many game movies were supposed to come out?

Gears of war?
Bioshock?
World of Warcraft?
Castlevania?

How many of them actually saw the light of day?
