I'm using windows vista and google chrome. I don't want another download application, so am trying to download via browser. I get the loading signal and nothing else.

Just get the downloader, even if you don't want to.

You have switched the downloader mode to off, right? Did you also try with any other browsers?

Thanks for replies, just me beng thick - it took about 5 min to load the page and about 1.5min to download.

The downloader is the way to go, makes things much easier and much more organized.
