Nah... just kidding with the title. But, apparently someone has released a mod/patch that allows you to play the original system shock with customisable keys, mouselook and in higher resolutions.

OMFG WISHLIST!
Heh yeah I was about to post this myself, its the sort of thing I'd like to use with the game if a certain somewhere ended up selling it

The control scheme was the only thing stopping SS from being one of my favourite games of all time.
/me wonders how many people actually skipped reading this thread because of thread title
Huh? The control scheme of SS was fantastic, just a tad untraditional! It's all about getting used to it... But hey, I can see how this could help people, I'll probly try it myself

I agree. Of course I can think of a better control scheme - one that lets the view rotate as the cursor moves closer to the screen - but in all fairness default control scheme served it well too. It just took some getting used to, especially if you were used to Doom's controls.
i grew up with mouse look so it was pretty awkward at first and i never really got used to it.

well me too, I have finished first System Shock about 3 years ago for the first time :D Still, I can adapt to pretty much any control scheme, so I can't probly judge others by my ... err ... well you know what I mean, can't find the right phrase and I'm too lazy to look for it
Preferences? idiosyncrasies? Freaky control system fetishes?
I seem to recall SS having a rather clunky control scheme, it was that game where you had a grid like control for character stance wasn't it? You clicked in a mid-left box and you'd be kneeling and leaning to the left?

Yeah, that's it. And then you'd click in the lower left corner and the upper right corner and your body would lie down, aiming weapon properly whilst head hovers somewhere at the right side of corridor, spotting stuff for body to shoot. Cybernetic implants are awesome!
I can see by your avatar that you are a very big SS fan Fenixp. Which do you prefer 1 or 2.

First one, actually. I have played the second before playing the first (and that was the mistake, I believe I would enjoy second a bit more if it was the other way around), so it's not the typical 'you like what you've played first' kind of thing.
There's much better sense of freedom in first than in second, and even at fifth playtrough, I was still finding new things I have never even noticed before. Also, in first System Shock, you actually FEEL like you're walking on a space station, it doesn't feel like a game nearly as SS2 did. Also there are certain game mechanics that I just find way more immersive. Oh and, of course, there's SHODAN at her best.
SS2, on the other hand, had better story and in some places it's even more atmospheric, which is probly caused by weapon jamming when you're not taking care of them etc. And there are way better RPG elements in here, pretty much fully customizable character. Still, I have finished SS2 2 times and SS1 5 times.
I prefer 2 simply because it scared me which is something no other game Ive played has done(maybe im just a wimp).
