my computer just got here with the onboard and I was able to play C&C and Freespace with no problems.

For that amount of memory of your graphic card it's fine to play dosbox game. But it depend on your processor and RAM whether you'll suffer from occasional stuttering or not. Based on your onboard GPU, i guess it must be rather old PC. Because dosbox is an emulator. It still need decent processor and RAM to emulate the game
