tinyE: IV is the only one I play right now and to be honest I master one hard to defend move and just poor it on. That is probably why I'm I'm not very good at it. :P I should say I did like the "bone break special move" they gave each character in IV.
We were playing with 4 people where the loser of each match had to pass the controller and that's the same type of problem we ran into. I found one or two good moves just kept spamming them because they were the only moves I knew and they were effective. I won a number of the matches with an agile character simply because jump kicks are hard to block, much to the aggravation on my friends. Then because I was spamming buttons (again because I didn't know any other moves) I figured out how to do air takedowns when they tried to jump kick back. Finally, a friend got good at blocking them with one of the larger characters (I think one of the bosses) and I was screwed.

It was fun for a few hours, but it gets boring once it boils down to finding the most effective move and sticking to it. I think it could be a lot of fun though between people who both knew all the moves and could use a variety of tactics.
