Hey guys, I'm not sure if I can post (about) this here, since the game is not on GOG's catalog but I will.

I own an original copy of COD1 and UO expansion (physical, of course) and I bought it like 6 years ago. The CD keys are not valid on Steam, but that's not the point. I installed the game (without UO) and it seems that some files might be corrupt. The main menu (in SP) has no picture in the background and pressing new game and selecting a difficulty doesn't do anything - it just closes the difficulty window. The multiplayer might work (there's a background picture and it queries the server), but I couldn't get into a server (just tried one) because I was missing some script file. Probably just a mod thing I didn't download.

I don't care about the multiplayer though, I just want to complete the single player mode on veteran difficulty. I attached a picture of how the main menu looks. Is there any legal way to fix this? I have a W7 64 bit edition.

Cheers!

I think you will need to patch the game up to latest build

Install CoD from disk, then install UO. Install UO into the CoD directory you choose.

Install these to a root directory like D:\CoD

Then get the UO 1.51 patch :

http://callofduty.filefront.com/file/Call_of_Duty_United_Offensive_151_Patch;36116

See if that sorts it out for you
I'll try it now, but I don't think it'll work. CoD (without UO) is currently on 1.5 (it says so in mp version, I think the sp remains 1.3), and I think UO won't mess with the original files. I installed it in C:\Call of Duty.

We'll see how it goes.

EDIT: I installed UO, and the single player main menu is the same like in vanilla CoD. However, clicking new game and selecting a difficulty initializes the first level, but it quickly goes back to the main menu because there was a "script compile error" I believe.

I know this is quite a bad thing to bring here, but would it be legal if I download the game files somewhere else (you know what I mean) since I actually own the licence (in the form of a CD key)?

It doesn't matter if you download the game somewhere else, COD1 has issues with win 7. You can try it out, no one here can say if it's legal or illegal. It's up to you to decide: do you want to download it to try a thing out or keep it...

Have you tried these things out?

Maybe you should do a fresh install again and see what happens. (I can tell you that you can play COD1 maps when you start UO multiplayer)

Nobody? :(

EDIT: I see what you mean, I just thought this wouldn't be a W7 problem because the game is sold on Steam.

Most games sold on win7 don't have any guaranty that they will actually work on all systems... There are community patches.

Did none of those thing in the links help you out? You might want to look at the steam forums then...This game has some issues with AMD cards, so you need to download an extra thing or two as stated in one of the posts.

Steam doesn't guarantee functionality of game so the fact it is sold there means nothing.
I tried to dl the game and it works just fine on Win 7 64 bit with AMD card so maybe try download it if you want, it is not warranted but it could work. You own the game so if you don't feel bad about it yourself I don't think why you shouldn't download it. You have serial, original CD, so I don't think there is anything wrong with it.
Well, I did download it, and it works. I knew the fault was in my CDs. Thanks to everyone who helped!
