Aliasalpha: I'm loving the game personally aside from the stage battles and even those wouldn't be so bad if the RTSey controls were decent. The sad but undeniable truth is that you cannot play an RTS effectively with a joystick

DAMN IT!!! And here I got another pair of legs, and 4 more arms grafted to my body, and NOW you're telling me I can't play all of them at once? *sigh* That's another medical procedure I'll have to get undone now.
On a more serious note, from what I remember they wanted to make it more like an RTS but found they couldn't do it right and tried to just salvage what they could from the game. Oh well, never really looked that great to me, I think I'll pass for good on this one.
I think I'll just wait for the Metalocalypse game, thank you.

cioran: Anjohl,
It's actually a RTS-lite/downmarket Overlord knockoff when it comes to gameplay. Really not much like Zelda at all. The game is absolutely nothing like the ad campaign. It turns out it's mostly an RTS-lite game and it's really not that good at it.
Probably the most misleading campaign since Fable (I loved Fable, but the ad campaign made it out to be an expansive, open-ended RPG like Morrowind, when in reality it was a very good, 10 hour long adventure game).

Wow, really? THAT must be what the head-banging minions are all about.
Brutal Legend seems to be getting pretty damned good reviews, so obviously they've been making a good game, or else.
Too bad there's no PC version, or I'd buy that. I'm not a big fan of metal, but I am a fan of Schaffer.

Then I'd probably not recommend it, the faults with the game are usually healed by the obvious love for metal

Fine, I'll just walk to the corner and finish playing Psychonauts.
The game is alright, the RTS elements were poorly implemented and done with little care. but the rest of the game is great. This is no God of War, nor is it Starcraft. Its not even like Giants: Citizens of Kabuto... that was more fun IMO.
What it has is Tim Shafer humor, a fun storyline... though missing a huge chunk of gameplay and you'll see what i mean once you see the rhythm of the game and feel that miss step. Its like they removed an entire race from the game. Anyways besides the rushed missing parts and the completely crappy RTS it really is a fun game.
Then again i know 80% of all the songs by heart before i ever played the game. That could help aswell :)

Did you find any gems you'd never heard before? I think ManOWar's "Die For Metal" is the zenith of the 'never heard that before' for me, its got an insanely catchy anthemic feel to it.
The nadir of that same scale was easily both of the 3 Inches Of Blood songs, Destroy The Orcs most notably. Awful awful song and about the only one I'll always change the radio (though I think it's supposed to be an 8 track) for.
Funny thing about Brutal Legend is that Shaffer argued that BL wouldn't come to the PC because the control scheme of third person games don't work properly with keyboard and mouse... and now, people are complaining because the RTS part of the game doesn't work properly on a controller.
Tim Shaffer Failed. XD
One thing I just remembered that struck me as odd about the game, the bands conspicuous by their absence. Metallica being the most notable. I was also sort of surprised to not see Gwar in there especially since the amazons bore more than a passing resemblance to slymenstra hymen...
I wish they didn't put Dragonforce in there. I mean, you can just mute it... But meh...

RTS gameplay + controller = fail.
